You have to go over the textbook urself! The tests are kind of difficult, but fortunately he gave of 10% of bonus problems. I got an A but the course is really time consuming.

By far the worst professor I have ever had at OSU. He is fine with students consistently failing the class. He does in class reviews and if a lot of people get the answer correct he says he will need to change the test and make it harder. His excuse is that he wants to make the class worth our money. Save yourself the stress, don't take this class

He says that his average is a 62 and you should be happy with that grade. His questions have nothing to do with what we went over in class and he is not very clear on what he is trying to say. It is much harder than a 100 level class is ment to be. I found it was more helpful not to go to class and get confused, and to study the text book.

Not the most difficult class, but pretty boring lectures at times. Foland was reasonable about assignments and tests, but studying is still needed. He is pretty friendly and would probably be helpful outside of class.

People aren't kidding when they say this is the hardest class they've ever taken. Insane amounts of work and studying to do. Professor Foland is the nicest guy in the world, but is nearly incomprehensible in his lectures. There is a curve, but even that may not save you.

Comment:
Foland is so boring, nearly impossible to follow lecture, and it hardly helps anyway. Tests are very difficult for a 100 level class. Not an easy A at all. Averages on all tests were about 67 and he was happy with that. Stay away from him if at all possible.

Comment:
The tests are extremely detailed and over tons of information. We read almost the entire textbook during the class. Labs are easy and a grade buffer for the tests. He also has about 10 bonus questions on every test, and curves. Not the easiest GEC, but not awful either.

Seemed like a really nice guy but he acted like he was teaching a 600 level class when it was a 100 GEC. Tests are next to impossible and staying awake in lecture is a challenge. Stay away from him if possible.

Do not take a class with Professor Foland! He thinks he is teaching a 600 level class when he is teaching a 100 level class. He makes the tests so ungodly hard. Worst class I have taken in four years at OSU!

Hardest class I've ever taken! This is definitely not an easy GEC. I got an A in the course, but it was a TON of work. Weekly labs, prelabs, homeworks, 3 field trips, 3 exams, 2 finals... just be prepared to be busy.

Class was difficult, but in the end I got a decent grade depsite the odds. Go to class and labs. Prof.Foland is VERY Passionate about his field and is very knowledgeable. Nicest teacher. Stay on top of work and ask questions. Show some interest and you should be fine

Foland is a very sweet man, but even all his candy can't make up for the fact that his class is painfully boring - he lectures straight fromt the book and rambles off on random tangents. He seems very interested and passionate about geo, but he doesn't realize this is a GEC - we're not geo majors!

Hmm. Loves to help students but gives scattered lectures (use his notes!). Not sure if that's good thing? Regardless he has a heart of gold! Like GEO 628 said, don't you dare believe him when he says you don't need to memorize something. That's the best advice I can give-otherwise a good guy.
