He's a great professor. His feedback on essays are the criticisms I never had. I truly feel that if I just had his type of feedback back in high school, I would have been a solid writer. Other than that, he is very humorous and laid-back. He generates an open atmosphere for discussion; you say anything (Wilde sucks) and he'd take it in stride.

Dr. Foss is an amazing professor, and actively cares about his students as well as the actual course topic. Hes a very good man and if you go to him outside of class because you need help he is more than willing to give it to you. The course-load looks like it would be overwhelming but its spaced out to a degree that makes it not as stressful.

Dr. Foss's 'pop-quizzes' aren't really a surprise, because after the 3rd week or so you understand the pattern of when he gives them, which is essentially every single class period (except for when there's an event, such as a speaker coming to class). They are also pretty easy. He is super nice if you need extra help for essays. 10/10 jokes too!

Foss was enjoyable for the first few weeks and then the class gets interesting. Be prepared to read a new book every two weeks. Be prepared for "surprise bonus points quizzes." Quizzes are easy if you do the readings and remember details. Midterm and final are exactly the same and is just essay written. There are two papers, be sure to participate.

This has been one of my favorite professors here at UMW. Participation is 25% of your total grade and you are only allowed a few absences. One flaw is that I have had no idea what my grade is due to his grading criteria the entire semester which has been stressful. He is a great professor and gives great feedback on papers, I recommend him!

The class was pretty even in terms of content distribution. We had a total of 3 papers over the semester, as well as commentary on other students' papers. It wasn't hard, but certainly time-consuming. Foss himself is nice and while his humour isn't for everyone, at least he tries.

This class has so much work involved! While it is a writing intensive class, it was also very reading heavy. The peer reviews for the rest of the classes essays, we did about 39-42 in total and they take about 3 hours to do them well enough to get full credit on them. While Foss is a weird guy, he's helpful and will give essay extensions if asked.

Very nice guy, a little awkward and quirky but friendly and obviously caring about his students. Horrible teaching style. All small group work, barely any lecture. Basically you will learn nothing unless your peers are super intelligent and enthusiastic, which they probably won't be considering it's a 200 level. Be prepared to learn very little.

Foss is a funny guy. You have to read a lot for this class, and attendance is implicitly mandatory as there are no makeups for the reading quizzes. He doesn't put people on the spot, which is good, but participation is part of your grade. He is a tough grader, I recommend using the writing/speaking centers. He is very passionate about this class.

I adore Dr. Foss. He's One of my favorite professors at UMW. I love his approach to lit. After taking many courses with him, the main issue with Foss is his failure to understand the shyness of certain people. Class Participation is crucial here. If you're afraid to share your ideas, don't take the course. He grades on very few assignments.

Foss is a brilliant professor. He is a plain definition of an informal professor. ENGL 295 is a difficult class, but totally worth it. Only 3 papers to do and it's on chapters in the textbook He respects everyone's opinions. and he is available during his office hours whenever you need to see him (just as long as he is not doing FSEM advising)

Dr. Foss is an awesome guy who is really passionate about what he teaches, and it pays off with how interesting the class is. He does give quizzes to make sure you read, but they are super easy. If you ask for help, he'll totally give it. He's so nice and there for all of his students! I'd recommend taking a class with him.

Dr. Foss was extremely detailed. But, this was for a seminar class. He has an amazing sense of humor and truly cares about his students. I am so happy I got him for my seminar. He encouraged participation but never forced it or made anyone feel like they were not smart enough. Reading was a s expected, but really not an overload. Great professor.

Dr. Foss is funny and a really nice guy, but it's hard to take a class seriously when the professor goofs around. He does assign a lot of reading and essays, which sometimes have weird themes. Also, expect a difficult final.

Dr. Foss is a very intelligent professor. He is a very tough grader on essays and speeches, but if you go to him for help he is more than welcome to give you suggestions/corrections. I really enjoyed this class, even though you have to read 9 books and watch 6 movies in one semester. I would definitely recommend taking this for an FSEM.

Dr. Foss is extremely nice, and always fairly energetic. I enjoyed this class, except the amount of reading was nearly impossible to ever complete. In result of not being able to complete every reading assignment, I often didn't do well on his "reward" quizzes, which count for a grade, NOT extra credit. Overall, Dr. Foss is a nice guy.

Comment:
Dr. Foss doesn't lecture much, hardly at all to be honest. The class mostly is made up of small and large group discussions. It is a hefty amount of reading, finishing about one book every two classes. Most of the movies are good, some are weird though. Overall, I loved this class and would definitely take it again!
