He's super helpful and willing to go over material again and again to make sure you understand. But you need to ask questions because he may gloss over technical stuff.

Global Climate Change-Non majors: be prepared for a lot of not understanding anything. Go to his office hours. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He goes in an okay pace in class but you'll get lost if you don't have a background in science like me. He's a bit disorganized but everything turned out okay in the end. Even with the low grade I liked the class.

Great professor and extremely passionate about what he teaches. He's kinda weird like a mad scientist but he's pretty chill. Although, there are always problems with quizzes on Moodle and he usually never replies to his students' emails, even though he prefers you email him. Other than that he's great.

Great class! Very hands-on. One of the best classes I've taken at Smith. I worked hard and learned a lot, and felt that he was very available to help us understand the material.

So, I am a chem major but I have taken multiple classes with Bob (Geo 104, 109). Bob is awesome; most people have nothing but good things to say about Bob. Bob's laid back and encouraging demeanor is refreshing for students majoring in other subjects such as chem. The geology dept rocks...no pun intended!

Geomorphology was wonderful with bob. I don't know what all these people are complaining about. Yes, he is at times disorganized, but he explains things quite clearly, and makes it all incredibly interesting. The class was challenging without being stressful, which made for a great learning environment. take geomorph!

Bob Newton is hands down one of the better professors at the college. He is quite laid back and an all around great guy. Bob Newton and Amy Rhodes are the best in the Geo Dept and much nicer/more down to earth than members in the Bio and Chem Departments for sure.

I took Newton's Global climate change class in Fall 2009. I guess I thought it would be taught from a socio/political standpoint, but this was pure science. It was more like a history of Earth's rocks and a ton of data. If Geo is your thing, then go for it! If rocks (and science generally) aren't your cup of tea (like me), run the other direction.

B-O-B was great! I learned alot in his class. But if you don't like spending loads of time on a computer...geomorph might not be the class for you.

A hard class, but a competent teacher who likes to teach (which can make all the diference). Fairly heavy workload, but Bob was flexible about due dates (I handed 5 assignments in on the last exam day and he gave me full credit). Overall a good time.
