Comment:
Dr. Leen is well-educated and passionate and explains concepts without a pompous air (ask questions!). Her grades are a LOT less harsh than expected (because class is rigorous), but expectations are still expansive (as Latin is a language of details). Class becomes quite monotonous as the semester goes on, but do not dismiss Latin for this reason!

Comment:
Dr. Leen was a nice woman, and she was very helpful with all of the assignments, but as time went on, the class became dull and it became much harder to do. Before this class I had enjoyed mythology, but afterwards any motivation I had before to study the subject has gone away. I wouldn't take this class unless you absolutely love mythology.

I placed into 201 after 4 years of Latin in high school. The class was not overly difficult; as long as you do the homework fairly thoroughly you should do fine. Extra credit was offered, and she was always available for extra help. Dr. Leen is very intelligent, fair, and understanding. She also has a quirky personality that is occasionally amusing

I placed into LTN-201 after taking 4 years of Latin in high school and found the class pretty easy. She gave 4 exams all 20% of your grade with the other 20% coming from participation. She even let those students with an A exempt the final exam.

This class was super easy as long as you have a solid background in Latin. Only two exams (the midterm and the final) and the rest of the grade comes from participation. Latin is boring, but I don't regret taking this class for the GPA boost.

I was not big on Dr. Leen at the beginning of the semester, but she did well working with students to make sure everyone got where they needed to be. Not easy by any means, but if you put in the work, it's very doable.

The texts we used weren't too hard to translate, but she is not the best lecturer. Our class was full of awkward silences. I don't think I paid attention most of the time. Not the best teacher if you need an interesting class to get a good grade.

Okay guys, Latin is not like a normal class. Oral translations mean you seriously have to do the work every night. Dr. Leen is really understanding if you just state up front that you're not prepared; as long as it's not every other day. Exams are pretty standard, but it will be a lot of work.

Dr. Leen is a true academic and very classy woman. She sets high expectations and gives students the tools to rise to them. I learned so much in her classes and now that I'm in grad school I'm so grateuful to have had professors like her. Really loves her subject and extremely intelligent. She's not easy, but so beneficial. Keep it up!

Very demanding, but I loved her! She'll crush you if you don't do your work, but the more you do, the more you learn, and it gets easier as the term progresses. She's great, but only take her if you are really interested in the subject she's teaching.

Mythology is supposed to be interesting. She made it not so much. Very boring, very hard, very monotone, not very nice. Although, maybe she was just mad that I never paid her an inkling of attention.

I did 2+ hours of Latin translation almost each night. Although this was the hardest class I took that trimester, my work paid off because Dr. Leen recognized I was trying. She will not make Latin interesting, but if you have a knack for it you can do well. If nothing else, her quirky personality is amusing!

ughh! i never want to see latin again. i hate it after this past term. definately the worst class ive taken since ive come to furman. just all around bad. dr leen was not helpful nor nice, but rather mean and degrading to anyone who gave any answer that wasnt entirely 100% correct-making everyone feel like a complete idiot. HORRID CLASS! dont take!

She is a fine Latin scholar and an intelligent prof who was teaching a subject (Medieval Latin) she never was offered a class on. This is no excuse for her lame exams and capricious project grading, among other issues. Her personality is also frigid, and although this creates no flaws, it does exacerbate them. But majors can't avoid. Can be beaten.
