Dr. Hellstrom is a very stern grader, but he really makes sure you understand the concepts and what goes on behind the lecture. Even though you may not come out with good test grades, you can achieve an A if you stay up with your homework and quiz grades. Everything he does has a purpose whether you believe that at the time or not. Great teach

He is a very tough grader. He also will throw trick questions on his test. On one of my tests the answer to the entire section was nothing. No one got it right. Do everything in this class assignment wise. All the work he assigns will really add up. Understand the material do not just know how to do the hw or you will fail.

Dr. Hellstrom is the nit-pickiest professor I've ever had, but he is an excellent lecturer. His grading scheme is brutal if you do not follow his strict directions. Also, learn to accept his sometimes hard feedback. His class is well-organized, tough, but clear. Take his class and work very serious and you will do fine. A is 88% and up.

Unless you're interested in taking material science, this would be the class you would want, if not then try to avoid taking this professor. Literally makes your life as worse as possible. Just another stuck up professor from Stanford

he tries to make your life miserable, assigns HW that takes 3hrs to do 4 problems not bc its hard but bc he grades you more on how neat your work is,not if its right,he makes stupid jokes in class that made me feel like i was 5 years old and he talks about the "maxwell demon" all the time, its weird, gives 45min quizzes w/ 10min left in class

Technical communication suck. You will not get an A in this class. He feels his job is to make every question as hard as possible to visual, adds "noise" to everything. He has his own jargon

Comment:
Dr Hellstrom is very anal on "Technical Communication" it will drive you crazy in the beginning but eventually it will become second nature. He loves talking about "Maxwell's Demons". Still don't know what it is. Overall he is a pretty good professor. STUDY his quizzes for the TEST. Understand the question before answering. He tries to confuse.

This is the worst teacher I have ever had at engineering school. He tries to fail the class and wants unreasonably clean work. This is the only class that I am worried about passing in my whole high school and college career. Really, if you can, don't take him

This teacher is very anal, unfair and tries to make it more harder He says it is like this in the real world, but it's not. The real world wants you to exceed expectations, but does not try to make your job harder on you. Grading is messed up, points are taken off for reasons you are not aware of until he tells you.He tries to fail the class.

Class is fun, interactive, and you learn some stuff. You write pagelong summaries that are due every week, you research some advancement and present it. There is no final. He does make some bad-quality jokes, and has a weird way of raising his hand, but overall, the juice is worth the squeeze in his class

He mentions that he's color blind atleast once per lecture, and he's extreamly anal, but other than that, not a bad guy. The class was interesting and easy, a good combination.
