Comment:
Paul had good intentions for the class by teaching the genetics course in a holistic approach to the misconceptions of genetics. But his connection with his students is very poor. He may not see the effort on your test, & just give you a flat 0 without any comments on why all points were taken away, & he may do that if he is annoyed with reading.

Would never take a class with this man again after this experience. For a "fun change in pace," he assigned a five-question exam all essay. He expected each question to be answered in no less than two pages. The questions he asked were more suited for an ethics class and the majority of them were offensive. 10/10 would not recommend.

I learned some useful concepts from the readings, but the professor is arrogant and preachy. He dismisses views he disagrees with instead of trying to understand and encourage reasonable disagreement.

This guy sucked. PZ is full of himself because he is mildly famous, but he's lost his touch. He is a poor lecturer, he is sarcastic and demeaning, and rather than teaching better, he just curves grades. He puts the most unimportant things on the exams, meaning that only people that have perfect recall can do well on the exams.

PZ is a great professor and is very understanding of his students situations. His office is also always open so its really nice to just pop in and ask for quick questions. For every test, he always gave us extra credit opportunities to bump our scores up. I will say in lab he is not much help unless you ask him questions.

Great lecturer, it's apparent he's an amazing public speaker but he's also a professor that you just know doesn't care about his students. He locks himself in his office and won't answer his students knocks. His grading is INCREDIBLY inconsistent! Even his multiple choice is inconsistent. HOW?! He also tried to schedule a final for a Saturday.

I hope to never have this professor again. The scope of the class was to have 4 quizzes and 4 tests. I liked that idea, the quizzes being the benchmarks for how well you're doing and will help on the test. However, there were no quizzes, just tests for 100% of the grade. Professor is lazy and has terrible tests. Take someone else.

He's very opinionated. There are 5 tests all semester including the final, and that's all he grades. There is no homework. There is a lot of reading you have to do outside of class, but it's not bad if you do a little each night. It honestly isn't that hard of a class, you just have to study and deal. TIP: Know Francis Bacon's 4 Idols for test #1 !

Wasn't organized. The syllabus was from the previous semester, and he made significant changes, making it hard to know what was going on. This class was the most random class ever. The tests were on things barely covered or not covered in class. Nice guy, but I wouldn't recommend him as a prof, at least not for FunGen.

I took him for Cellular Biology. Honestly, his was the only class I enjoyed going to this semester. He has strong views about certain topics, but so what? We're here to learn all aspects of life, not just the sugar coated version you've been given up until now. He likes to challenge people, and comes off as offensive. Highly entertaining.

Do not take PZ Myers if you have another choice. Unless you are fantastic at Biology already, you will not do well. I already had taken AP Bio and gotten A's and loved Bio, his class is not Intro level at all. Goes through things way to quickly, teaches at one level and tests on another. Not a good teacher.

The course is very interesting. Prof Myers is is heavily engaged in anti-creationism which is great, but he is apparently 'too important' to substantively engage with students even in office hours. Luckily the material isn't too challenging but he seems lazy about writing tests and informing us what's in them.

Pz myers is awesome! He's really famous so its like having a celebrity in class! He's up there on the news with Richard Dawkins and Jerry Coyne, although he hasn't written a book his comments are usually heard...that being said, he is always busy but his stuff isn't hard so long you pay attention.

Alright this guy is sweet as hell, frank as hell and very good with words. He runs a popular blog and has been featured on several documentaries and gives talks everywhere. He teaches really well, and tries to be as clear as possible...is also tolerant of stupid questions, unless they border the insane.

Interesting character. Very into anti-creationism. He can teach the course so that you want to learn. Not too hard, not too easy. One thing is he is always busy, always. Very hard to find him for office hours. Otherwise, if you are a liberal person, you will like this prof. If you are conservative, you will want to strangle him in the first week.

Ok Professor Myers (better known as PZ Myers)is an excellent scientist. He is always associated with names such as Richard Dawkins, and has featured in many documentaries, if you even type his name on youtube you'd see how popular he is. That said, he is an excellent scientist & professor...yet he is really busy, all the time.

Very knowledgeable, and very opinionated. His lectures + power points are clear and helpful. He thoroughly explains the material, but never thoroughly explains whats on the test. He likes to throw in stuff from the readings to make sure you've been reading. Less approachable than most profs I'd say.
