For this class, literally show up and you will get an A. The only assignments are a biweekly one question quiz, which he gives the answer for almost every time, and a small project and 2 page paper. If you want to give yourself a break and take a seminar that you could sleep through or do other assignments in, this is the class for you!

Attend each lecture to see what's important on the lecture slides. The book is not required for this class. If you study the lecture slides, you should be fine for the exams since sometimes it's specific. The exams are not difficult. Dr. Shortridge goes on tangents, but it's not terrible. Easier than other Bio 201 professors.

Honestly I don't see why everyone dislikes this professor so much. Hes one of the nicest and most caring professors I've had at UB. Yes he goes off on tangents sometimes in class but is that really a big deal? Take him for bio 201, he makes the class so that it is easy for his students. And if you go to class there's no way you won't achieve an A

Already love this man. Study power-point slides. Goes off on tangents, and his tangents are hilarious.

The GOOD: Textbook not mandatory, same one used in high school Pulls questions from old exams and puts them on tests- FREE POINTS You don't have to attend lecture Final exam has 30 questions from old exams Test material from slides Tests are curved The BAD: Rambles too much Doesn't record lectures Easiest Bio201 Prof!!

A good guy but wouldn't take him again. He spends less than 1/2 of each class talking about material and then discusses his life/philosophies. I'm not great at a bio and need someone that will spend time on the material to really learn it. If you are good at bio though, I recommend him. He curves the average up to a B+ and wants everyone to do well

Randall is a great professor. He has good teaching methods and tries to make sure everyone can pass. He goes on quite a few rambling tangents, you can learn from the tangents but they can get a little repetitive. Randall wants to give as many A's as he can, and he does curve! He's a quirky guy, but he's also really smart, especially in his field

Yes, he does go off topic a lot. I stopped going to the lectures because I found they were starting to be 80 minutes of him talking about his life experiences - among other things. Just read the slides he posts online and you'll do fine. Easy.

Yes it is true, he does go off on tangents, and will often times forget what he was talking about, but he still establishes his material clearly, as well as what to expect on the exam. I would highly recommend taking a class of his. He makes his exam very easy and slide based, and he's also a very funny guy, and made class enjoyable and relaxed.

I think he was an ok professor all exam questions were really straight foward and he also lowers the scale at the endof the semester. He also adds points to exams if it doesnt reach his expectations. He goes off topic for most of the class but sometimes tells important stuff which would be on the exam. Memorize all stuff on slide and youll do well.

He's the worst!!! He keeps on telling stories in my forensics class and fails to lecture the material on the exams. Also he goes off tangents in every class.

extremely difficult to follow and turns lectures into bio advice and his life story. spends close to 20 minutes rambling on getting so off track of what is on current slide that I can't even remember what we were talking about. If you must take his class get the text book and read the notes. Be prepared to teach yourself. Does let class out early.

Makes Bio lecture more of a lecture on his life story. Rambles on about nonsense for little over half hour before he actually starts to teach the subject. He's confusing to understand.

This might be one of the easiest professors at UB. There are in class participation questions that can be done through an app. You get two points if you answer it and three if you answer it correctly. Tests are very fair, just show up for lecture and stay semi awake and you'll pass. He does get sidetracked and will talk about random life lessons

Lectures (& himself) are soo boring, but you should show up if you want the A. Print lecture notes, write downunderline things he emphasizes in class. Study his notes thoroughly and you'll do fine. He's not that bad just boring. Sometimes ends class early, tries to be funny, & loves to "give advice" for science majors.

Okay, I'll admit BIO 201 wasn't all that hard especially if you choose to take it with Shortridge. I had lecture for 80 minutes twice a week, and I have to say I was glad bc the lectures were WAY too long. He tends to go off on tangents, but is really there to help you get a good grade. So go ask him questions about exams! Take him to get an A.

I found this class to be very interesting, overall I found him to be a great teacher, as long as you read the textbook and listened to what he was saying in lecture his questions were straight forward. Some questions were from the book even. VERY nice guy, I recommend him as long as you're willing to put in some extra time reading

He is honestly not a well professor. I've tried studying many way to get through his class and still only do ok. I put so much into it. I found out the only way to do well on the final is by simply reading the textbook and listening to his lectures online. That's the best bet and it helps me get a decent grade. His slides don't help.

Shortridge isn't as bad as he appears to be, his tests are much easier than Hutson's and he is willing to give curves. Also, if you read his slides you will do well on his tests.

I usually have an open mind with professors and like them more than most students do, but I could NOT STAND this class. For many students this is a very important foundation course to master, yet this guy was subpar. I'm an A student...I got a B and I worked my butt off. Also, he doesn't offer extra credit anymore so don't rely on that.
