Three tests and a final all multiple choice. Would have figured differently for a writing intensive. Reading quizzes every class. I found the way he utilized in class time to be boring and useless. If you're a good writer look elsewhere

I had him for a short fiction class and I thought he was pretty good. He has alot of stories to tell and is really passionate about english. I found the class pretty easy, as long as you write the papers (usually 1-2 pages) and show up to take the reading quizzes.

Never thought I would find myself so enamored with a 70 year old man! He is interesting and fun, and had I not already chosen a major, I would have become an English major after taking his class! Tests were very difficult, however, if you are a good writer, you can still pull off an A.

Prof. Hurley is the best English professor I've ever had!! I only took an English seminar with him, but his comments were some of the most helpful I've yet to receive at BSC. Truly a gifted writer himself, he'll push you to change the little things that go a long way. Sets you up for a successful college career. Definitely take him!

I forget so many of my professors and remember so few. He falls into the latter category. Twelve years have gone by and I still recall his lessons. Immensely helpful. Always interesting. No bull. Sincere and honest. Fair. You will not forget the tips and tricks you learn from this guy. Enjoy.

This professor is truly one of the most amazing, unique, creative and knowledgeable professors I've ever had. His captivating lectures & works he's published are truly extraordinary. Not to mention the fact that he's adorable. If I could change my major, I would. I highly recommend you take one of his courses.

He's pretty a strange teacher, but is usually pretty nice. He can make wise remarks at students sometimes but thats really it. He doesn't give much work, but he has a unusaul grading system and can grade pretty tough. Grammer, works citied, punction, ect... are all wicked important to him

good teacher. grading is a bit rough and your final grade rests on your final paper which is somewhere in the vicinity of 16 pages. he explains well, very willing to help, just the work gets pretty old

Absolutely worst teacher I have ever had. Marked my papers for mistakes that weren't even there, made up terms, and was completely irrational when people missed classes. I would rather have root canal then take his class again. Focuses on LOTS of vocabulary, puncuation, sentence structure...stuff you should already know in college.

Really fun guy, a little bit crazy at first, but you get used to it. Works on grammar and sentence structure quite a bit, but keeps class interesting. A few papers, but nothing too serious. All around I liked him a lot an I would love to take him again =)

Hurley was an ok guy, except he didnt give any kind of rubric for his papers/ test was completely memorization about authors and the tests were completely pointless. Canceled class like 2-3x.

I had him last semester and loved the class! The essays were always interesting and very fun to write. He is a bit of a tough grader, but if you put a little work into it you walk out with a much greater understanding of writing and grammer. MOST I've ever taken out of class. worth it! :)

I took Hurley for both Creative Writing and Technical Writing. I will first say, no matter what, you will come out of there learning something. He's pretty animated in class and can make the subject interesting. His grading is kind of tough and he appears egotistical at times, but overall I would recommend.

Expect to see grades like 5/100 for incorrect margins or other meanial items. Homework takes forever and is pointless. Have to write a book at the end and it takes forever and he grades very hard. My first C in college. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE AND TAKE AS AN ELECTIVE when you are a senior. I did learn some, but most is unneeded.
