Comment:
Dr. Wagner will teach you about narratives in this course which is HUGE for children on our caseloads. He is one of those professors that you either love or hate, but no matter what, you will learn SO MUCH and be a better clinician because of him. HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT! He was one of my favorites, and I loved every class I had with him.

Comment:
This class is one of the more "boring" classes throughout grad school. However, Dr. Wagner tries his best to make it entertaining and practical. He gives several opportunities to collaborate as a class while developing the research topics. He really is reasonable and considerate, but you have to put in the work for him to work with you!

This course was my first class with Dr. Wagner. He clearly knows SO MUCH about the profession. The reading material mostly came from assigned articles that he makes available on the course reserves. The quizzes were challenging for me at first, but once you learn what he is looking for, they get easier! Get ready to take notes during the lectures!

Comment:
This course pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Because the class size was small, Dr. Wagner was able to call on each student. He really did keep us on our toes, and although that can be stressful, it makes you a better student and future clinician! In this class, he assigned a phonological cycles project which has been helpful in therapy!

Dr. Wagner is EXTREMELY knowledgable and passionate about the field, especially AAC. He assigns projects that will give you a huge advantage as you are entering the field. He also has several company reps present their products which gives you a HUGE advantage over students from other programs.

SPAA 371 with Barry is a difficult class, but it's not impossible. If you work hard, you can earn the grade you want. Make sure to thoroughly read the articles for the "labs." There were 3 exams, 2 of which were 180-190 questions. The exams are long, but necessarily difficult. If you go to class, take notes, and work hard, you will be fine!

Hard tests of about 180 questions, a paper over a research article of your choosing, labs over about 3 articles every week, and a huge project. Go to class with A LAPTOP to take notes- he goes too fast for handwritten notes. He can be pretty personable and is extremely knowledgeable, but I am not a fan of his teaching style

Had him for SPAA 371/312 and he is the only professor I have never been able to get an A in class for. He does not explain things well, his material is hard to follow, and he makes you read constantly. Has no respect for the fact you are taking 4/5 other classes. He's funny but it doesn't make up for the fact his teaching could use some work.

Be ready to read! You will have nearly three articles to read every week for his labs. For the exams, there are only three, which means that a ton of lecture material is crammed into one exam. For the first exam we had 5 articles, 15 videos, and I had 25 pages of lecture notes to review. I am typically a A-B student, but don't expect a high grade!

Attendance is very important! There were days I typed 3 whole pages of notes in one lecture. Get ready to read research articles nonstop and take 180 question tests. Barry is a really nice person, but his teaching style can be rough. Ask him about his dog!

Honestly, I was super worried about Barry's class because of things I heard, but he actually rocks. His tests are tough, but not impossible. He's also lowkey hilarious and if you sit in the front and talk to him and ask questions, you'll be fine!

This class is taught through lecture content and assigned article readings. It is absolutely essential that you form a study group or at least one friend to study with for this class. You simply cannot be successful if you tackle this course independently. Discussing the readings and lecture material with peers was very helpful for me.

Dr. Wagner is intelligent and knowledgable when it comes to research. However, rather than lecture the material himself, he assigns research articles for homework. I learned more from the articles than him. Know the arbitrary people he mentions, apparently their college affiliations are more important than the actual material of the course???

Dr. Wagner is a nice person, however once he starts teaching it's a whole different story. The topics we discuss in class are all over the place, and the entire class is basically taught using research articles. The first test was 180 questions and the points in the class are made up from all tests and quizzes and two 15 point hw assignments.

Wagner is a nice guy, except in class. He is very tough on his students and provides no help what so ever for us. The first test had 180 questions and was 7 weeks of material. He then told his entire class "If you didn't do well, just study more." He offers no extra credit, no extra help outside of the classroom lecture.

Comment:
He means well but is just not an efficient teacher. He has a hard time seeing anything through a viewpoint that is not his own. His powerpoints are constantly filled with error and inconsistent with what is being discussed in class. Its not uncommon for the ENTIRE class to leave feeling completely lost. He is a good person just not a good teacher.

Comment:
This professor has absolutely NO respect for his students!! He finds it virtually impossible to adopt anyone elses view but his own. His preoccupation with teaching at a big 10 school clouds his ability to focus on anyone but himself.
