Loved this class! The prof gives so much feedback on essays and interacts so much with students in discussions. As long as you follow the rubric to a T, you shouldn't have a problem getting an A! Be prepared for lots of discussion posts, observation exercises, and a hands-on project. The 8-week class can get a bit overwhelming so plan accordingly.

Will not accept late work, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Does not offer extra credit. No empathy or sympathy for life circumstances. No remorse. There is soooo much reading involved. Assigns projects that are very time consuming. Definitely not a class for working people.

I loved this class and professor! Took online and grade is comprised of discussion posts/responses, reading ch.'s and notes (300 words/ch, very easy), and two projects. Allows one, one-week extension for any assignment. Inspiration proj- make an art piece inspired by an artist from book + essay. Other proj. more difficult, write about a few topics.

Great class, very interesting. 300 words of notes per chapter read, 4 discussion/responses for each chapter, and two projects. Do the work and you will pass. Super interesing class, loved the book. He is great at responding and grading, he is a true asset to VVC. Highlly reccomend taking this class even if not requiered.

Ripley was great, I took him for an Art 105 class online. We had to read chapters and do 300 pages of notes- super easy. We had two projects and had discussions on every chapter. If you do ALL of your work, then it is an easy A. The textbook- Living with Art, is interesting. I recommend this class. He also offers one extra credit opportunity.

I am not a fan of the pass/ no pass system, this teacher is very heavy on it. I feel if you complete all the work and if you are only wrong on one or two things you should get a partial grade, but apparently the professor is more than happy to fail most of his students. I would never take this class with this professor ever again.

Lots of reading and analysis but if you enjoy reading you should be fine. I took this class online and was impressed by how fast Proffessor Ripley answers any questions via email.

He was a fun teacher to have but when it was time to learn he made it fun and interesting to learn. He would make sure everyone understands what was going on and if someone is having a tough time getting the supplies he would share some of his personal stuff until you get your own supplies.

Very cool teacher. He is very understanding and has time after class for all students. If you miss more then 3 classes you will be dropped, so try to make it to each. He has a good sense of humor and is very lay back.

He doesn't exactly teach much. You go in watch some random videos, (he claims are pertaining to the chapter) and then he rants, A LOT. He goes off on to other non related tangents frequently. He is very particular about English and grammar use. The class was definitely easy as far as assignments go, but I'm not sure you will really learn much.

The worst teacher I have ever had. Does not help with explaining his assignments. Does not care if someone passes or not. Talks down on his students. Horrible teacher.

I absolutely loved this class I wish all teacher had clear grading criteria like professor Ripley. The class was pretty simple just have to take notes for each chapter that you email to him and write two discussions posts and two responses for each chapter. There are also two projects but they are both easy and fun. Do the work and it's an easy A!

Ripley grades on a "weighted system". Expect to be graded on other people's willingness to work. You have to write 3 papers and do 300 words worth of notes on each chapter. If people do not do their share of work, it will cause you to get a poor grade. He is not helpful or caring.

Mr. Ripley will always be one of my favorite professors. He was there for all of his students on a professional and personal level. Always understanding and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to art. I was able to take two of his classes. His art history class and his drawing 1 class. While drawing 1 was a bit more difficult, it was all great.

The online course is fairly simple, no tests or quizzes. Professor Ripley does have tough grading criteria, but the assignments and projects are easy to complete (plus the reading is interesting and the projects are fun!). He keeps you up to date with announcements and genuinely cares for his students' learning experience.

Took the 8 week online class. 4 discussion post per chapter, usually 3 chapters a week, sometimes two. So 12 discussion posts a week. Lot of reading from book. 3 essays minimum 800 words on analyzing an art piece. 1 essay every other week. Chapter notes emailed directly to him, 300 words minimum per chapter. No testquizes. NO TESTS! Took online in 8 wks, just did weekly readings + notes that u email him, + then 4 short discussions each wk. 2 projects; make sure your writing on these projects has lots of analysis over description or else he takes off pts. Offers a couple points EC too. Pretty easy but did take a little time. Ended up with a 97 percent.
