There is a ton of favoritism that went on in here and if you ever question him on anything be prepared for a docking of your grade. Don't schedule any class right after his because if you want to talk to him after class you'll have to wait 20 minutes before he figures out how to actually find your grade or unlock his laptop.

Prof Weiss was one of my favorite professors. It took a bit to get to know how to take his humor but once you can roll with it hes easy and fun. He cares about the success of his students so if you dont understand something just ask and he will appreciate the extra effort. The 30 page syllabus can be confusing at first but it makes sense.

This man is the absolute worst professor ive ever had. He spends the majority of lectures which are mandatory telling you the same stories from his life over and over and over again. He acts like what he's doing is the most important thing possible and thinks he is this omnipotent being that can do no wrong do not take this mans class.

He's not a bad guy but he is a bit rude on his comments during speeches. There are a lot of speeches and you have to write a paper for most of them. Quizzes can be tough, most of the info is from the book not his powerpoints. He does give a lot of extra credit on the last paper/speech. Attendance is worth 30 points so show up to class.

I would not recommend this professor among the other CAS 100 professors. His lectures are not quizzed, however the expensive textbook for group communication is, which most of the other professors do not require, making lectures pointless. His presentations are not too bad, but he usually interrupts them. Overall a bad professor.

Prof. Weiss is not a bad guy. However, he is sometimes rude with his remarks and maybe a little degrading. You have quizzes often but never talk about what is on them, therefore you are left to read the book to have any idea what is going to be on them. Not a bad guy, not a great professor. Probably wouldn't take him again.

Weiss is a great professor and knows exactly what he is talking about, but I think he puts way too much on his students plates. His work load was double the amount of every other class I took for my major, which shouldn't be the case. But he does seem to care about education. If you have a short temper and little sense of humor, don't take this cls

I'm sure at one point in time Mr. Weiss was a great prof, however the time has past. I am always reluctant to post negative comments however this man confuses himself with his own syllabus, forgets when he changes due dates and cannot admit when he is wrong. I would shy away from this professor.

Show up to class because he gives you points for attendance. If you follow along in class, understand the 30 page syllabus, and participate, you will get an easy A in this class. Weiss is an old guy who can not hear and will pick on you. Jokes are never mean and he is very understanding and easy to talk to. IF YOU ARE SHY DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

Professor Weiss is a very fair teacher. Many students don't like the amount of work required for the class, but you will learn a lot about communication and speaking. He is such a nice guy and it upsets me when people speak so poorly of him. He is very honest too. He will tell you how it is and let you know what he thinks of you. Great class!

Worst professor I've ever had in my life. And I've had some BAD ones. Confuses himself with the ridiculously long class syllabus, openly makes fun of students in class, and you have to yell at him for him to even hear you. Waaaay too many assignments and projects to worry about when you're taking 15-18 credits a semester. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS

He confuses himself with his own syllabus and even the days of the week. Half the time HE doesnt even know what is due when. Check list within the assignments are repetitive. He is a great speaker but does ramble. Boring class because of the rambling. Cant hear very well. How can you teach a class that requires speaking when you cant even hear? GL

Never has a professor more rude than this guy. If you don't talk loud enough for him, he will make you repeat yourself, multiple times. The work you have to do to prepare for a speech is ridiculous. He points you out if you are wrong in anyway, and ''makes fun'' of those that have low grades. No work is done in class, you just sit there a listen.

Taking a CAS class with Joel Weiss is interesting to say the least. Weiss really knows the material well and interjects humor to make the class interesting. He is unclear at times and will confuse you at times.

Lectures suck. He grades pretty easy on presentations. A few papers, but I feel like there was way more work for this class then actually needed. Not that bad of a professor.

He's a very amusing teacher, and sort of insane at times. Remember, he's only joking when he asks to rip out your heart! He really tries to get to know you and does everything in his power to help if you need it. Speeches require little preparation and are quite limited. Just be sure you are in a good group and this class is fun and easy.

Absolutely awful professor. The speeches are easy, but the amount of work he makes you put into them is ridiculous and unnecessary. Condescending and rude. I don't know what professor these other people have had but he is NOT what I expected from these reviews. Don't take him if at all possible.

Professor Weiss is very helpful. His sylabus is really long but it has everything you need in it because you don't need a book. He is very into the success of his students and he will do anything to make sure that you are doing your best. I had a great time in class and I am a great public speaker now. I would take him, but you have to work hard
