Comment:
This was an introductory course to computing for engineering students. The course was revolving mainly around the application of MathCAD and VBA to engineering problems. Prof. Minardi was a source of inspiration, very caring about students take on the course and very effective in finding and accommodating practical problems and projects.

He cares about his students, nevertheless his lectures are very boring maybe due to the easiness of the material. The attendance is usually low.

Lecture was incredibly boring, and I didn't go most of the time. Everything you need to know, you'll learn in lab. Labs were actually interesting, and if you have a good TA they'll be a breeze. I never used the textbook once. Also Minardi is terrible at responding to emails.

He is much better in a smaller setting, very helpful and sometimes sarcastic when you go to him for help. Genuinely cares about his students doing well in the real world.

Although Professor Minardi seems very enthusiastic about the content of this course, his lectures remain very mundane, prosaic, and pointless. Lab sessions are the only necessary components of this class.

Worst professor at Tufts so far. Lectures are useless and knowledge required for the homework is often not mentioned in lecture. I learned more from my lab TA for sure.

For starters, AutoCAD is a pointless tool in the real world, SolidWorks is used much more readily. His lectures are pathetic and pretty useless. However, as long as you mess around with CAD and Inventor in lab and out of class, its pretty easy to do well. Gotta love engineering requirements...

Very fun class you start out with mathcad where you write operation that in a streamline way. Making function and letting mathcad do the operation. Then you move on to macros and VBA which are embedded in excel and you learn how to write programs.Exams are a bit weird the exam test on how you would problem solve. Final project is great and a fun.

All civil engineers should take this class. It's fun you gain skills using revit, autoCAD, inventor, and 3ds max. you get to model unique thing and minardi helps the individual a lot.

His lectures are useless, and furthermore the program he teaches is useless to everyone except for civil engineers. Nobody should have to attend his awful lectures, but he forces you to attend on the off chance your name will pop up on the who button.

Lectures are pointless. You can't learn how to use a program from listening to someone talk about it. Furthermore, he is just a bad lecturer. Even his TA's think that this is a poorly designed class. Too bad you have to take it!

Unfortunately his part in teaching CAD is unnecessary, which renders EN2 lecture boring and useless. However he is actually a very knowledgeable guy, and rather friendly as well.

This class should not be a large lecture. Nobody payed attention during lectures, and the labs/HW were the best way to learn the material.

Prof. Minardi teaches a class that really could be taught in a lecture or two, so the lectures are pretty much pointless

Minardi has the curse of teaching a class that needs about 10 minutes of teaching but has to be stretched to fulfill a half credit. Lectures are useless, you learn it all in lab within a five minute presentation from a TA.

Comment:
Decent professor. Very well organized computer presentations, but boring lectures (somewhat unavoidable due to 150+ class size). Lab TAs are relatively lenient and always helpful. Either way you don't have much of a choice since ES2 and EN2 are required core classes that you will be taking with him for engineering classes.

Comment:
No need to buy the text book, only buy the lab manual. Borrow a friends book for the 1 or 2 assignments that require the text. Lectures are very boring and Minardi is not the best person at MathCAD or Excel/VBA. TAs are helpful. Labs and homework weekly are the best way to learn the material. Final project at the end is time consuming and trivial.
