Comment:
Brian really cares about his students and is always willing to offer support, but I found some aspects of the course unnecessarily hard and confusing and lectures aren't relevant. The labs take a LOT of time but aren't worth much. He seems to care more about writing ability than analysis in labs. The key to his heart is chatting with him about GIS!

Brian is so knowledgeable and passionate about GIS. You don't have to go to all lectures since there's no final exam for this class, but there is an attendance grade. He's a fair grader and the work for this class is really reasonable. I didn't think the labs were hard at all, and he gives a lot of feedback for final projects if you ask for it!

lecture materials poorly organized and disconnected, lecture REALLY boring and USELESS for labs, lab instructions confusing and outdated, lab requirements unbelievably tedious with really high expectations, unbelievably high load for labs. AVOID HIS CLASS BY ALL MEANS

Brian is a nice guy and willing to help students, but he's not that great of a teacher. His lectures are VERY hard to follow and understand, mostly because he constantly stumbles his words and has a very dry lecturing style. Labs require a LOT of work because his instructions are disconnected and confusing, and the labs have a lot of requirements.

Too much reliance on website & online notes, but slides posted online are incomplete. Much time spent searching through text & websites for information. Lectures pretty dull & so much info! - impossible to get it all down. Needs more connection btwn labs & lectures, & better access to complete slides for studying. He's v. nice & helpful though!

lecture is painfully brutal!!! labs are intresting, but time consuming... for final/ midterm use textbook website to study... he pretty much lifts all the m/c questions directly from there

If you're in human geography/planning on taking this for science credit, unless you really like GIS, I would recommend cartography. Lectures are dry, hard to follow, but Brian is extremely helpful and approachable. Perhaps not the best lecturer but he can really help with the final project. Not a difficult course, but boring without any interest.

He is nice. He notes are clear but there are also tons of materials on the web. You will get good grade if you could read them all.

Amazingly intelligent prof. I think thats the problem. He doesn't really know how to lower himself to a level that can be easily understood by the average student. Really nice guy though.

Labs and Lectures completely unrelated. Too much information is posted online, all of his notes online with links to dozens and dozens of more pages. Too much time spent looking thru web page for answers that he does not bother to address in class.
