Comment:
Tansens now at NYU Shanghai. Hes funny during lectures and he spends a lot of class time talking about the assignments so you know what he wants. That said, he is pretty disorganised and is often inconsistent with his syllabus. He also sort of caps his grades at 95 so its ridiculously hard to get an A. Easy to get an A- though.

Way to much work for a Pathways course that should be an easy A. I should have switched to an easier teacher because Tansen assigns way to much work and the only way to get an A is to put all your time into the course. Read chapter outlines for quizzes and just pray for your papers because the grading for those are slightly random.

Spring '15. There were 6 assignments all together. 1st paper about 2000wrds based on textbook. One paper was on a movie 1000 wrds. Another paper on short stories and one on a 2nd required textbook. The last paper about 4000wrds combined all the previous papers. Book report due at the end of the term, questions provided during lectures.

Lots of reading, 4 long papers and 1 even longer final paper. BUT you will definitely learn a lot and take a lot out of the class, just be prepared to read, write, and not sleep a lot (unless you manage your time extremely well).

Comment:
The workload of this class in ridiculous. The assignments are more than the work assigned in a higher level English class. This class is definitely not worth taking as the professor has no sympathy and acts as if this is the only class students are enrolled in, judging by the amount of work he gives.

Overall good teacher, funny and engaging; you will learn about history. BUT his class is way too much work for a level 1000 course + he's a tough grader. Chapter quizzes each week worth 30% of your grade. 4 LONG papers. Midterm + Final (each has 4 parts:, MC, Map Work, Short Answer, and essay) I did less writing in literature class. Not worth it!

The quizzes are very specific and can be tricky. Timing pressure is real and the chronology section is hard. Assignments are graded very painfully. Your grade is basically what you get on the quizzes. He is extremely clear but be ready to do well on every quiz. Readings are a must. Outlines are okay - he tells you what to focus on. Avg is a B. This professor is very entertaining! His witty sarcastic humor keeps you interested. Still, there is a lot of work involved in this class. Read the chapter every week because there will be a quiz that follows. There are also about 3 written assignments, and you are expected to know how to write... well! I highly recommend him, but you can't be lazy

Quizzes on very chapter is easy as long as you read which is like 15-20 pages per chapter, assignments not bad, and teaches through lecture and slides.
