Best 4 credit class at PSU. Only 3 quizzes that take a while to prepare for, but the quizzes are easy as long as you do the readings/videos. Also weekly Packback postings but they are fairly easy as well. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH SAM!!!! Seriously the best class ever

You won't take another college class like his, so Sam is a controversial guy. You'll either love or hate him which is fair. When I listened to him I thought he was a genuine guy trying to push our thoughts about race because it's a very complicated subject. If you actually put the 4 hours in for the 3 quizzes you will get an A. Easiest class ever

SAM is by far one of my favorite professors. Really enjoyed SOC 119. Lectures are very interesting and talk about different topics. For the grades, I took it online and was thru twitch. You watch the lectures and there are lecture quizzes. Very easy if you listen. There are 4 comprehension quizzes, you do the required work and then youll be set.

Sam is an awesome teacher and his class is so easy. He streams on twitch now because of hybrid class requirements so youll need an account if he does it next semester too. Hes super easy to talk to and his class is really interesting and will make you learn and teach yourself a lot. Theres a lot of reading and videos for quizzes but thats it.

THE EASIEST 4 CREDIT A YOU WILL EVER FIND. You do absolutely nothing in class. All you have to do is show up to get attendance points. 4 quizzes based on reading and videos he gives you which is the bulk of what you do in that class. Packback due every week, very easy. 6 World in conversation which are interesting.

Sam is a good guy, but in no means is a good professor. He just rambles on about things in class that do not always have to do with race and ethnics. Also world in conversations are the worst. You have to do 6 in the semester and they do not really educate you at all. Sam also is not involved at all with the WiC. The quizzes are really hard.

Easy class, very interesting teacher. Just come and listen to him discuss many different life topics, sometimes by calling people down to participate in discussions or experiments. No computers but phones allowed. One of a kind class. Quizzes are straightforward on articles and videos assigned. Need to participate in 90 min group discussions though

If you want an A, make sure you're swimming in free time to study the (often pointless, typo-filled, poorly written, reality TV-esque) readings and videos that the vague quizzes are based on. He seems cool at first, but a few lectures in you'll see how uninteresting 80 minutes of an old white guy talking about his worldliness can be.

His lectures have no meaning/insight. Seems like he has ulterior motives. He often says offensive/uncomfortable comments during his lectures about black people.

Hes lectures are one of the best in psu. But Im want to talk a little bit about his character. I sent him an email saying theres a mistake in my grades at a Saturday night. He literally replied me at 10pm at night, went through hundreds of attendance sheets, and changed the grade an hour later. How could you not like him?

he's super understanding, just go to class sign in and you get points there. Do your posts, they're honestly not that hard once you get it. It's one post and two responses a week, takes 30-40 mins. Quizzes three times a semester but need 5-7 hours of reading if youre a slow reader. But thats a lot better than other classes. Easy A, just take it.

attendance is mandatory bc you have to sign in each class & it goes towards your grade. You have to do a post & 2 responses each week, it takes about 45 mins so it's really easy. You have 3 quizzes that require a TON of reading. Sam is amazing, he's really understanding. As a class, you grow as a person. Great GPA booster bc its 4 credits

Don't get me wrong, I love Sam and he is an amazing professor. But sadly he lectures and then gives quizzes that have nothing to do with lectures and then expects you to do all these reads in a week when its like hours worth.

Sam is an amazing teacher and Soc 119 is the best class at Penn State! But don't be fooled, it is a lot of work. There are reading assignments every week, and 3 quizzes. For the quizzes, there are around 5-10 hours of reading and they are really specific! But if you go to class and do the work, it is an easy A!

The class setup is horrible. No exams but that comes at a HUGE cost. 3 quizzes with each quiz having around 6 hours of reading. Some questions are way too specific. Did all readings and STILL got 75% on quizzes. Weekly POINTLESS meetings in groups like AA meetings. Grades curve down. Got an 89% overall but ended up with a C. TA's do all the work

Dr. Richards's class truly helped me see race and ethnic relations in a new light and made me think about things in a deeper way. One complaint I have is the grading scale, which could be rough if you do not get very high grades on the quizzes, but I looked forward to coming to this class. Do your tweets and video responses though, you'll be fine!
