He will get on your case if you skip class a lot. He assigns a lot of readings, some will have quizzes that you take but not every single reading has a quiz. The essays arent too difficult, if you get a bad grade he allows you to revise your paper and resubmit for a new grade.

I loved this class a lot. The course mostly focuses on papers, but we got to pick our topics as long as they met a the syllabus theme, AND we got to revise them and re-turn them in for a higher grade. There were some pop quizzes in the beginning in order to make you come to class, but we had about 3 altogether. Prof Jaap is a very funny too!

Its not a horrible class. Took it online over the summer. Discussion posts due every week and you have to respond to two other people - multiple paragraphs for the post and responses. He doesn't teach, assigns readings that aren't necessary. Textbook is free online. Papers are graded with no rubric - single spaced. Last one was 8-10 pages.

Jaap is the best, most caring professor I have had. He cares about his students. you will only write 5 papers in class and he allows you to revise each one after he grades them. If you pay attention you and put in work on your essays you will easily receive an A

There are only five papers for the whole class, so its not too bad. The papers aren't based off anything from the book and 95% of the readings are not graded, so if you don't read anything except when he tells you you'll have an in class essay, you'll be fine. However, if you want him to like you, thoughtful, respectful participation is helpful.

This professor really cares about his students. He loves stories! Give a story everyday, and he will love you! His papers can be difficult, but he allowed one revision, which really helped. He also gives readings from a textbook, but honestly you can look them all up. The only thing you have to buy is O Pioneers! Fun class, easygoing professor.

I had Dr. Jaap for English 15 when I was a freshman and he honestly was one of the few professors I believe helped ease me into college rather than just ruin my life from the start. Papers were never longer than 6 pages, he explains things very well, and shows that he cares about students. You do have to read a bit to do well on the quizzes.

Dr. James Jaap is a good teacher. English 202D is a rough class, but if your attendance and focus is there you should do well. He does not give clear answers and bounces around topics or explanations when going over assignments. So your notes are scrambled like his. But he sucks at answering questions. I don't know why but its terrible and funny.

One of my favorite professors at PSU Greater Allegheny. May have difficult papers, etc, but well worth it. Very helpful. If you work hard, achieving a grade of "A" is realistic.

The best teacher I've ever had at PSU. Courses are very reading intensive, but if you read, the quizzes and tests are very very easy, just make sure you're thorough with essays. Extremely nice guy and gives you every chance in the world to do well in his classes.

took this class in 3 week summer school, best thing I ever did. He let out early everyday! He also graded pretty easily, most of the students I talked to got A's. Tried to keep it interesting. Very few projects in summer school to complete. I recommend him!
