Comment:
The lectures are beyond boring and heh retells the same stories all semester but its an easy class. Only assign like two group homeworks and a final project, but there are a few exams that are based on the books required for the class. Overall easy, but super boring. Also feels like he randomly assigns grades but doesn't give low scores.

Leon Cort is incredibly passionate. I took him 2x for 3rd World Studies and Int. Pol. and the class goes like this: Show up, he starts talking for 2 hours, leave. It definitely can get dry but you won't really have to take notes but if he starts writing on the whiteboard, you better write whatever it is. Do the papers and youll get a good grade

Comment:
An unfortunate example where the topic promised is more fascinating then the execution. Leon Cort is both passionate and unstructured, but his class is incredibly one-way and tangential. Even students with vested interest in the material are lost by the roller-coaster of topics, opinions, and stories. It's incredibly disengaging drip-feeding info.

Very easy Professor and International Politics is very easy too. He barely takes attendance and you can use laptop in class. Just show up and pay attention. Only one paper throughout the semester, you can write whatever you want as long as he approves.

I took Third World Studies before. Very interesting class and Prof Cort got me thinking differently. Really like the fact you can use laptop in class and fewer course works compared to other Hu and Social Science classes I took before. Look forward to taking his class again

One of the best HUSS professors. He will make you think. You only need to write one essay in the class - the final paper where you can choose the topic and there is no page limit. One in class exam and one take home. You can also use laptop in class. Overall relaxing

Things are kinda repetitive. Attendance is required. Took both International Politics and Third World Studies with him. Heavy readings normally one chapter per week. Feel like International Politics is easier than Third World Studies. Nah there you go

Nice guy and seems generally knowledgeable but assumes every student is 18-22 years old, lacking military experience, untraveled, monolingual, uninformed etc. Responds to questions with irrelevant information that does not address the question asked. Uses Guyana/Nigeria as examples, provides no bg info, wonders why students stare at him blankly.

Professor Cort is a great man. However, in my third world countries class it felt like he repeated the same three or four stories every week with slight changes to them. The class is definitely oriented more towards individuals who aren't knowledgeable of global issues. His final paper requirements are very vague.

Professors Cort gets off topics from time to time in lectures. Had him for international politics before. Be prepared to read 40+ pages of chapter per week, also weekly paper, exams, essays. At the end, learned a lot . Not an easy A or easy course. You need to work hard to get a good grade. Take him if you don't like to slack off

I graduated in 1998 and had Prof Cort for many Economics classes. An amazing man who grew up in a small South American country. His knowledge and stories are wonderful. Stay awake, you'll learn a lot about the world outside of Boston.
