Comment:
Took his class as a 2L in 1987 and I've now been practicing for 29 years in a field that involves a good bit of CivPro. His class did nothing to assist me for the practice of law. It was as if he wanted to make a straightforward subject much more difficult than necessary. He used his own teaching material which probably didn't help either.

Probably the best and hardest professor I've ever had in my life. He's an amazing intellectual, and pushes students hard.

He is an awful teacher. He grades incredibly hard and even if you read the materials for class 400 times you still won't be able to answer his questions in class.

Comment:
Confused about what he wanted and did not comprehend a thing he said in class. Taught the material to myself, and was still confused on the exam. Does not offer any kind of one-on-one help--even when asked multiple types. Only works there because the school makes him teach mandatory classes for 1st year students, otherwise no one would take him.

Nothing prepares one for real practice like a good professor. Stan Darling is that professor. I have his CivPro treatise on my desk. Excellent class taught by a true academic who loves Civil Procedure.

He can be difficult to follow at first because he's always thinking on another level, but if you take his advice, take time to understand his way of thinking, and consume all of the materials he provides, you will do well in law school.

AVOID!!! Unless you are a law nerd who enjoys entertaining hypotheticals which have no application to the real world, get out. This man fills every waking hour considering minute details that have very little relevance to proper understanding of the case. Previous posts that describe him as "unique,""profound," or "unorthodox" really mean "kook."

Comment:
Horrible. Makes rude jokes and enjoys seeing students squirm with uneasiness when he throws a pop quiz. Pretentious and pompous are a few words to describe him. However, to be fair, he is kind when you meet with him for help one-on-one. "(whistling and walking around). . . one minute please"

Laughs at his own jokes in class when they aren't even funny and nobody else knows what the hell he is talking about. Also expects way too much from 1st year students!
