Great professor who gives great lectures. However, reading the book and taking notes is a must in his class because it is very test heavy. The tests are pretty difficult, but it helps tremendously if you read the textbook and take notes in class. His stories were pretty entertaining as well.

Professor Holzer is the best professor I have ever had. He does make you work hard for your grade and there are only a few things worth grades. But he is very understanding and is willing to work with you. He wants people to succeed, just take good notes and pay attention and you will do great.

My advice is to listen, read and do the study guide. If you do not read the book, take notes or do the study guide you will have a hard time. He is clear on what he wants from his students and he is very engaging with his students. He wants his class to pass and will answer questions. I enjoyed his class and I recommend him to anyone.

Engaging in depth lectures with great stories. Really helps you visualize what your're learning about. Tests and essays can be a little difficult but he was there to help.

By far the BEST professor I have had in my college career. Dr. Holzer is extremely down to Earth, his lectures are entertaining, and he overall makes learning History much more enjoyable. His class is heavily based on tests, but he grades your notes and participation, so take good, solid notes and show up to class. You MUST read your book as well.

You are graded on 4 tests and also have a book to read which he did not tell us until 3 days before the exam. He gave 2 finals all of his tests are short answer. He grades extremely harsh I could not get above a 70 on any of his assignments. I sent him multiple emails in which he never responded. A history class should not be this difficult.

Holzer knows his stuff and it is clear during his lecture. He is an awesome professor that makes class interesting but it is a class you have to work hard in. Hardly any HW assignments so the only thing you're graded on is Tests which can kick your butt in the end. The class is hard but the professor is great.

If you do not read the text book you will not do to well on the tests. The papers are pretty easy, they are a lot, but he doesn't grade to hard on them. The tests however he grades pretty hard so always remember the questions like who, where, when, why, how come, and so on with battles and other important events.

Mr. Holzer was a great professor, but his class was not easy. His lecturers are detailed and fun to listen to, but you need to read the textbook too to do well on his exams. There were only around 4 exams and 2 book tests, so it is essential to study to earn a good grade. Keeping good notes helped my grade move up at the end of the semester.

I took this class in Fall 2015 but forgot to post a review. During the first test I waited until a few people were turning theirs in and then I got up and left. Holzer was so funny during lectures and was great at teaching, but his tests were near impossible. I dropped the course. However, I've never been great at history, so that didn't help.

Mostly lecture based but if you hunker down and read the textbook chapter to chapter you can cram for a test. Tests are hard tho.

I have much respect for Dr. Holzer. I greatly enjoyed both classes I took with him, and he genuinely appreciates the students who take the class seriously. He is accessible outside of class, but to get a good grade you will definitely need to take notes and know the " So What" of the course material.

He is a top-notch lecturer and could probably teach at any university he wanted, but he choose to stay here for some reason. Most challenging, collegiate-level professor at this entire institution. Not so big on remembering dates, just wants you to know the "SO WHAT!?" of every topic. You WILL leave his class with critical thinking skills.

Holzers class is one of the hardest, funnest, and interesting classes i have ever taken. Holzer is OUTSTANDING and will have you dying laughing at some points, however if you dont show up, take notes, and read YOU WILL FAIL. Expect 75 minute detailed fun lectures and good study guides. He cares about his students and grades tough but fair. 10-10

Most of the class is lecture base, but even if you aren't interested in History, he makes it interesting by telling it like a story with pictures in his lectures. His tests are extremely difficult if you don't read. I recommend not missing class at all, unless you want to be lost in the course. If you have to, email him & he'll work with you.
