Comment:

Took HIST9 online due to Covid and Prof. Geck was very understanding of the general chaos 2020 was throwing at people's lives. His video lectures were fun and engaging. Almost made me want to take another class with him for his lectures. Weekly quizzes on lectures and textbook, writing assignments based on interesting readings. Highly recommend!

Awesome professor! Took HIST9 online due to Covid and I found his recorded lectures super engaging and fun. Made me want to take another history class with him. Weekly textbook and lecture quizzes, plus question writing assignments based on weekly readings. Two essays. Extra credit opportunities make it so you can pick and choose assignments.

I love, love, loved him! He was a very engaging professor and would make jokes during lectures. There were quite a bit of readings but, they were fairly simple. He gave open note quizzes-- using a study sheet he gave you that you could write on (front and back). The only reason I didn't get an A was because Covid hit and everything became weird.

Comment:

I made a review on Dec.22.19, and although it's a different class I've taken with him, it runs the same. Straight forward at the beginning, tells you exactly how the class will go. Lectures are super interesting, I recommend reading the book if you enjoy knowledge. Geck is a very likable guy too, but it doesn't hurt to be a chiefs fan. Ty Geck!! :)

Professor Geck is phenomenal. He makes History interesting when participating in class, prepare to think of yourself as a redcoat or a slave. He's incredibly flexible and if you want an A, you can get it if you put in the effort. Stay on top of the reading and use sources in the assignments and you'll ace his class.

Although you are expected to read a chapter every weekend, you don't really need to. The weekly chapter quizzes are 15 questions with unlimited retakes, the exams are based on the quizzes and he allows for a study guide on the last two exams. If you went to high school you can pass this class. Also memorizing the quizzes for the exams doesn't hurt.

Geck is a great professor, easy to chat up about the class expectations and he really gives you plenty of chances to succeed. Ten out of ten would take him again, loved his Western Civilization claa.

Pros: Excellent teacher. Clear lectures. Cares about topics. Willing to work with students. Quiz answers mostly online. Exams based of quizzes. Can pass with about 2/3 reading done (between text books and articles). Fair grader. Allows study guide and 1 page notes for exams. Only 2 exams. Cons: Excessive reading. More reading. Even more reading.

Geck is a great professor. He mainly lectures in class and you have a few discussions as a class which are very engaging. He listens to all sides, allowing a real conversation and/or debate to take place. Typically the answers to his multiple choice take home quizzes are on the internet. I rarely opened the textbook for those and passed. 10/10

Good teacher. He expects a few assignments every week but they are not difficult if the reading is done. Tests are pretty easy and he gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. Likes the cold war era and starwars.

Geck is a doofus but a pretty chill guy. He knows his stuff and you can tell he enjoys teaching it. There is a fair amount of homework, with something due almost every class, but none of it is overwhelming or very difficult. Show up, stay on top of the reading and the homework and I can't imagine you would get anything other than an A.

Tons of extra credit and second chances, he is usually pretty lenient with late work, especially in the beginning and end of the course. Tests are directly based off of homework assigned earlier, and class lectures are all posted online. He usually goes over upcoming assignments and reminds the class of things that are soon to be due.

This was by far my most favorite class. Before this class I found U.S. History absolutely boring. He is an amazing teacher! the tests are completely based on the worksheets. Take his class!

So at first, he seemed a bit brash, but you get used to his humor, and he tries to make his teaching meaningful and and loves to answer questions. There is a fair bit of homework, but tests and quizes are a cinch. He goes pretty fast in his lectures, so I would HIGHLY recommend photocopying his lecture slides.

FOR ABOUT THE FIRST TWO WEEKS, HE CAME OFF AS KIND OF A HARD ASS, BUT AFTER THAT HE EASED UP. I THINK HE JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T GOING TO PUT FORTH AN EFFORT, WOULD LEAVE. HE IS A FAST LECTURER, SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO DO THE READING TO KEEP UP. I LOVED HIS CLASS BECAUSE HE MADE HISTORY EXCITING AND INTERESTING.
