Please leave WPI. He uses the same course information in all of his classes. I think the slides were created in the 90's. I had him for an advisor (4 years) and an MQP advisor this year. He is a terrible advisor both for school and the MQP.

He teaches the same materials in his freshman, sophomore and senior classes. He uses the same lectures and notes. He assigned the same book for all three courses which is the worst book ever. I did not learn anything in this class. Why does WPI keep the older professors that should be retired. No a lighter note, easy grader.

I took Intro to Engineering with Prof. Hoffman. The class was very work-heavy and group-focused. It was a LOT of work. That said, I definitely recommend the class. The skills it sets you up with are invaluable. Learning how to write proper papers for engineering and working on an engineering project as a group are a must at WPI.

Worse choice for an advisor. Interesting project however that means nothing when advisors are terrible. Doesn't not understand industry only academics.

Term project really put "Theory and Practice" into use, providing valuable experience. Surprising has a lot of writing for an A-term freshman course. Homework and quizzes were graded more leniently than expected. Reading assignments are very important to do. Lectures occasionally get a bit boring. Overall would recommend the class.

Extremely condescending. Some of the material is interesting but completely unnecessary. I would not recommend taking his class at all.

Fairly easy class, but also a lot of fun. This class was project based, so it gave you some good experience to talk about during job interviews. Class simulated a real company, with each member of group given a 'job', which was cool to do. Quizes were pretty easy as long as you read the book

He is a pretty nice guy. The class is a bit more writing than I was expecting for my first course at WPI, but you learn a lot from this class about the design process and what it means to be an engineer. A lot of work, especially for the term project, but he grades pretty easily on quizzes and homeworks. Good project experience

One of the best professors I had at WPI. Dr. Hoffman is very knowledgeable, communicates effectively and a fair grader. The work seemed a lot but you will end up with a comprehensive knowledge of the subject without a lot of stress. Excellent graduate level course.

Hoffman is awesome. He is interesed in the subject matter and makes it hard to doze off in class even when its early in the morning. He's really helpful when you ask him questions in and out of class. Definately take a class with him if at all possible!

I completely agree with the other person's comments. He's one of the most condescending profs I've had to deal with. This entire class was complete b.s. I didn't learn a thing. Worst class I've taken (& I'm a senior). Lectures were boring as all hell.
