As a graduate of Capital's Music Department, I can honestly say that Dr. Reuter had a long-lasting indelible affect and effect on me. He was a demanding instructor who was extremely helpful both in and outside of the classroom. Many of the lessons he taught me have been extremely useful to me since graduating. I often think of the wisdom he shared

Comment:
Dr. Reuter's Music Tech Survey class sucks. About 20% of it actually deals with music tech. I came to earn about music tech, not about english, grammar, and math. This man claims to be the founder of the program, but he knows jack sh about what he is doing. This man needs to be fired. I hate Dr Reuter and I hope no one has to suffer him.

i enjoyed ecomp with dr. reuter ... he was extremely helpful in getting us to think about compositional issues and what effect are music was having ... i know some of the comp majors who failed this year like the one who wrote below ... they were lame and unproductive ... he knows what hes doing and is a good composer and teacher

I gained almost nothing from my composition lessons with Dr. Reuter. He kept trying to write my music for me--telling me exactly which notes to put where but not really explaining why. He also taught me next to nothing about other composers and different styles of music, and his class made me hate composing (which is my favorite thing to do).

Has helped me a lot in composing ... I don't have much experience, but his suggestions have helped me to create the best compositions I've ever done. He expects a lot, but cares that we do our best.

Dr. Reuter is dedicated; expects students do their best; he's hard, which makes the best better. He's moving the con, comm, arts, and university forward and within budget. Recognize the challenge managing both, which he does extremely well. He's not an expert, as any dean is not, but does the best he can-as he expects students and faculty to do.

Comment:
Dr. Rueter is the worst part of Capitals staff. He claims to help students but he really just brushes them off. He is not understanding of students situations. He does not treat all students equally, letting some slide by while not allowing others the same opportunity. As a professor, dean, and person, Dr Reuter is terrible and should be fired

Dr. Reuter, I hope you read this and realize how miserable you can make your students. If you would start to see us as people, and not numbers, maybe you wouldn't be so heartless. I realize that being the dean of the school is a difficult job, but that doesn't mean you have to be a jerk. Even the teachers agree. Six thumbs down.

I think a dean's job must be very hard. Dr. Reuter is fantastik! He is always available and always helps everyone through an issue. If it's not his decision, he knows who you need to talk to. I've been told he's still a great composition teacher. He obviously cares about all parts of the Con & will do anything he can to keep it the best around.

As the dean he does do some great things, but there have been quite a few occasions where he has stated I can't help you and sends you somewhere else, only to return later saying you have to have something from him Caused a lot of unnecessary run around that could of been avoided by a simple, let me see if there is anything I can do I'm here to help

No longer teaching as he has become dean of the Conservatory. Seems extremely dedicated; from what I hear, the best dean the school has had in 20 years! Obviously cares about students and programs. Goes to tons of concerts & interacts well with students and faculty.

Likes to take chances in composition and wants the students to try the same.... Is doing a lot to help the conservatory; some of his ideas are unpopular but if you wanna make an omelette you gotta break some eggs! And hes breaking all the right eggs. Knows his stuff, and anything he doesnt know he's still in the process of finding out. Inspiring.

Heard about negative reviews; jumped on to see; Unjustified - probably disgruntled students who didn't last! Reuter knows his stuff, has done a great job building the program, continually improving the facility/gear to be current & state-of-art; ; expects students to learn experientially (best way) & holds to high standards; Excellent comp. teacher

I certainly don't agree with the last two reviews. Dr. Reuter is up on technology and is practical about its applications. He does push historical information as being very important, but that is supposed to be a major part of his class. His understanding of the software and hardware is excellent and handouts are very useful and complete-Just Work!

Rocky doesn't understand most of what he teaches. Watching him fumble around in ProTools trying to enlighten us to the wonders of technology was pathetic. He's hopelessly out of date with electronic music, yet convinced that he's the ultimate authority. Rather than researching what he's paid to teach, he hires students to do it for him. Avoid!

Doesn't have a clue. Understands idiotic information (and nothing more) and wants you to be great at Trivial Pursuit. Don't worry about anything applicable to your profession, because Rocky thinks the Workshop teaches you that. I would have learned more if I'd stayed in bed.

Very confused about some topics. Not in his head, just in making those thoughts into words. You can tell he understands it perfectly, but has trouble expressing it. I still learned more from him than any other professor yet.

My first time studying with him. He has lots of good ideas for me to work on for the next lessons and sends me to really good resources for listening to new composers and works. Some of them are out there, but he explains why I should listen to each.
