Comment:
I took Dr. Cain's class for Energy and Development. I had no background in energy of international development prior to the class. However, he brought the material down to a level that was digestible. I honestly thought this class was one of the most practical that I've taken, especially if you're interested in energy.

Comment:
The class is based on examining liberalism and democratic theory from Hobbes to modern theorists. Dr. Cain mixes his class with humorous anecdotes and grounded serious discussion. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and I would recommend taking him. The better the group discussion, the more you will enjoy the class. Be engaged.

I took a course in development with Professor Cain. It was difficult but professor Cain's enthusiasm and real-world examples made a very technical subject relevant and entertaining. He genuinely cares for his students well being and is always eager to help. He encouraged me and helped to on the path I am on now.

Such a great professor! He is always willing to meet with students and help in anyway that he can. He really cares that you understand material and are not falling behind. Hes very encouraging. The class is challenging, but you learn a lot and can apply it elsewhere. You should take this professor!

Prof didnt seem to prep his lectures before class, the syllabus was incoherent and then he never stuck to it, then he missed multiple classes without sending out any emails, leaving us to wait for him, when he was at class he was often late, and he was always late handing out major writing assignments. Als0 uses different language in his tests >:(

Very nice guy. He knows his stuff but he talks in circles. If you understand the main thesis from all the readings, you'll be mostly alright. Definitely don't expect to know any of your grades till the last possible second. Also, he's really interesting to talk to outside of class.

Extremely disorganized and gives no feedback. Takes months to hand things back and never responds to emails. He is an interesting guy but has so many jobs that he does not devote enough attention to his students. Study guides are given just a few days before exams and you end up teaching yoursel because his lectures just go in circles.

Really interesting discussions in class, definitely knows his stuff. However, don't expect to ever know any grades prior to the last week of classes. Isn't the most sensitive when it comes to obligations and workload for other classes.

He is very disorganized and expects you to understand the readings right away. He puts people on the spot and expects an incredible amount of participation making it a rather large portion of your grade. This is hard when you didn't understand the readings. His tests are sort of hard, and even those can be confusing.

Prof Cain is an awesome professor, he has a passion for politics and speaks from experience. Class is based mostly on discussions which make it easy to learn the material. He is quite disorganized though and isn't great with help on exams. This isn't an easy credit to get.

Wonderful, energetic man who is passionate about politics and cares deeply about his students. He loves debate and discussion, is open to new ideas, and encourages students to think for themselves. Conversely, he's a bit disorganized, expects you to understand the readings immediately, and can put people on the spot, but he means well. Great prof.

Professor Caine is a really great teacher. The class isn't easy, there are a lot of readings and he expects you to have a good comprehension of the topics assigned, but he is always energetic and interesting. He is very involved with his students and is always eager to hear input from all perspectives. He expects a lot, but gives a lot in return.

Nice guy but very boring class. There are a lot of readings that don't tie into the class and leave you wondering why you bothered reading them. If you want to learn about politics in todays world or about any relevant issues this class is not for you.

He's a nice guy personally and he tells good stories. Sometimes the lectures get kind of dull. There's a lot of readings and sometimes it's difficult to find how some of the material covered relates to other material covered. Overall, not a bad class though.

Comment:
His method of teaching is one that requires the student to "teach" themselves, and in that respect it is very Socratic. After reading the readings, he engages the students to talk about the readings as if they were teaching him. You are guaranteed to see the world differently because of his classes.
