Comment:
The midterm was in Week 11, and one assignment was due during the exam period. The assignments were worth very few marks, despite being a fair amount of work. Other than that, not a bad course and not too bad of a prof.

If he is teaching a course, forget which course it is, just take the course. It's as simple as that. Why are you still reading? Go and enrol already. By far the best, clearest professor I have ever had. Makes very hard topics easy. Very challenging, yet fair questions. For serious students, you could not ask for a better professor. Hats off to him.

Excellent lecturer, knows the material very well and clearly thinks deeply about how to explain it before class. Always falls behind on marking mid-term, but will eventually get assignments back. If you work, you get the mark you deserve.

Ok, it's time a grad student posted something here. Takahara's lectures are engaging, and he teaches with exceptional clarity, without notes in front of him (?) Brutal subject, difficult assingments, but success is something you have to earn. He hangs on to assignments for kindof a long time... Great prof, helpful, good lecture notes online too!

If not the best, he is certainly one of the best professors I've had at Queen's. Perhaps a bit disorganized, but really nice and an exceptional teacher.

I've had Takahara before, and I'd have to say that this is the best class I've taken of his. He did an excellent job in lectures explaining topics clearly. He was always willing to help students with assignment problems as well if you had any questions. My only peeve was that his class ALWAYS ran late. But the class was taught very well!

Comment:
In a linear regression course, I would have liked to see a lot more examples in class with real data as opposed to beta hats and x bars. I sat through most lectures confused. That said, he was very helpful if you approached him with questions regarding the assignments, and was very willing to answer questions.

Shows up late everyday, and kept us late everyday, which is very rude. Didn't seem like he put a lot of effort into the course. Seemed hungover every morning.

Good prof. I find his explanations and lectures fairly easy to follow. An intuitive approach. He's not overly enthusiastic, but he knows his stuff and I does a good job with the class. Gives good, challenging problems but isn't too harsh with marking.

Worst prof I've ever had. His attitude when you ask or answer questions is EXTREMELY discouraging. He NEVER says anything positive to students. Takes no interest in students' thinking. His ability to explain things is average. I think he acts nicer only if he knows you on a personal basis. Bottom line: in permanent midlife crisis.

Dr. Takahara is (as it says below) not the most enthusiastic person in the world. It helps to remember that he's actually quite shy - helps to make a lot of stuff fall into place. If you're willing to work in this class, you'll get 90+ easily.
