Smart fellow, but a really hard professor. Really looks into code rather than anything else and is more interested in teaching Ada than actually helping learn programming

In the Fall of 2013, 33 CS majors took Intro To Computing at the University of Northern Iowa. Of those 33, ten passed. Of those ten, eight passed Data Structures. Of those eight, three wrote reviews. Of those three, one wrote a really good review. This is that really good review.

Worst computer professor, just awful - words don't describe, Cares about code formatting more than the non-working code your stuck on. He went to school for GEOLOGY.

I don't see what everyone's problem is. He is a very intelligent teacher and teaches very well. He may have a few bothersome quirks but really knows what he's teaching. If u do your homework as soon as you get it you can easily get it done in no time. Also if you start on it earlier, you can come ask him for help earlier. He really wantsu2succeed.

Hardest Class I have taken at UNI. I spent over 200 hours on my project and still recieved a failing grade. Make sure you have a good group for the project. If you don't you will easily fail like half of us did (6 of 12).

Teacher is very strict and grades EVERYTHING. miss a comma and you will be -0.8. With that being said, he does prepare you for a future and if you pass this class others might seem easy.

This professor will fail you if you don't love Ada. He is of zero help, and would rather fail you then help you. I suggest going python, you learn something there. You can't take on this class and others and expect to have a life. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES

Dr. McCormick leads a very difficult class, however, you adequately prepares you for the remainder of your Computer Science degree. If you are not willing to work hard, you will struggle. However, if you do work hard, you will be rewarded. I highly recommend, but don't expect this class to be easy.

Comment:
This professor teaches the course with the intent to be difficult. The point of this course being taught in Ada is not to teach you Ada, but rather to teach you how to program well and efficiently. If you can learn how to program well in his course, you will be able to cross over to other languages with minimal effort, only needing to learn syntax

Comment:
McCormick is a very poor instructor. He isn?t qualified to teach Computer Science, his education is in GEOLOGY! Ada is not a demanded programming language when looking for employment. He?s hypocritical about grading. Assigned programs can be perfect, but if the comments are not as HE wants them to be, they are wrong. Avoid him, he?s terrible.

Comment:
McCormick is a complete disappointment. He says it is his duty to sort out students who will make CS careers. How? By flooding us with homework. Weekly 20 minutes quizzes, weekly homework assignments, weekly chapter readings from his Ada book. Grading is unreal, points deducted for lacking comments. Ada is useless. Go with Dr. Fienup instead.

Comment:
Very knowledgeable and well organized. The classes are not easy, but Dr. McCormick thoroughly teaches the material and makes himself available to help out if needed. You must apply yourself to do well in his classes - you will be rewarded with a deeper understanding of the curriculum. One of the best teachers I've ever had!
