He's a fantastic lecturer. I was so inspired by the class on Transcendentalism that I went for a hike right after! His essays were clear cut yet challenging. There were 4. For novice writers there are easier promptsoptions. He is engaging and sympathetic. He listens to his students during discussion. Nice man, a true scholar and gentleman.

Stay away from this teacher. For a 200 level course, he assigned TWO 5 page essays for the take-home final. On top of that, the prompt is ridiculously hard! This class was harder than my upper division Engish courses! I strongly advise you to skip this teacher! ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! POP QUIZZES EVERY CLASS! HARD PROMPTS FOR ESSAYS!

Fantastic professor. Lectures provide fascinating insights into individual texts as well as their literary context. Love his ability to creatively link seemingly unrelated works. He provided articles of his own as both examples of his expectations for class papers and interesting viewpoints on the pieces we read for class. Overall great guy.

It's important to do the reading because he often has pop quizzes. They're easy if you have read. He doesn't grade too harshly on papers, however his prompts are loaded...it's easy to get lost. Focus a lot on the unnecessary components of a work. Lectures are boring and he is very set in his ways. He doesn't let people disagree with him. He believes he's always right.

Love his class. He is a great professor and makes sure you understand the material he is presenting. He is thorough with his lectures. A lot students have difficulty with his prompts but I assure you if you answer all of the parts of the prompt you will be fine! I've taken two courses with him and wish he taught more!

You have to be prepared for every class because there is a pop quiz/group discussion every time. My only advice to you is: answer every question of the prompt (there are 3 papers) or else you'll get a C. Even if you feel like you have answered everything, go to him during his office hours. Because you most likely didn't. He is very helpful!

Uba isn't so bad. He lectures pretty straightforward and writes everything on the board which helps. Three papers, first, term, and final & quizzes plus participation make up the grade. The only thing I don't like is he does not allow revisions. So, prepare ahead of time! He's great though.

He has some interesting things to say to and show to the class, but I don't remember him being receptive to outside ideas. He is a good guy though and I'm sure he's a great asset to the Engligh Department.

He's a great professor, not easy, but willing to explain thoroughly. One of the most interesting classes I've had at CSUN. Highly recommend for serious students only! If you're looking for rinky-dink class, avoid.
