Prof Ruben is a great professor! We had a take home midterm & final ( half of it are just identifying terms), about 13 reading summaries and a presentation on onw of those summaries. If you do the reading and take notes you should be fine. His lectures can get a little boring, but Dr. Ruben makes up for it with his flexibility and kindness.

He's a straightforward, empathetic, lecturer. All assignments are accurate on his syllabus and are flexible, as long as you put in the effort. The topic is dense but his slides are super helpful. There are a lot of readings and summaries but if you do them all you'll pass with ease. He is very accommodating and will work with you fairly.

theres quite a few readings and summary responses for them. theres a 10 pg term paper. he gives the midterm and final in advance. the books help with the tests but he also posts his powerpoints so you can just use that. the material is difficult if ancient Jewish history is new to you but youll definitely learn a lot. overall, hes really sweet.

Incredibly nice professor. You have to write 2 page summaries for a bunch of readings and theres a take home midterm and final. You also have to give an oral presentation on one reading. Try participating in class especially if its online. Gives great feedback. Hes very helpful so if you need help understanding anything, reach out.

He's incredibly kind and understanding. The grade consists of: Midterm, Final, Primary Source Summaries, Additional Reading Summaries and, Participation. The midterm and final are take home and open book. He provides them about a week ahead of time. He's quite lenient with the due dates but try not to fall behind. He's very nice, highly recommend!

Fall 2020 -Professor Ruben is a pretty classic college professor in my opinion. His lectures were on the boring side, in my opinion, but you didn't need them to do well in the class, although they counted for credit. Other than that it was a lot of small writing assignments like 3-4 per week at least, although they are simple and graded pass/fail.

such a sweetheart, and was incredibly kind and understanding during the transition to online. his exams were take home even before covid, but they're pretty straight forward once you use the textbook. his final paper was also easy, and he offers great feedback. take a class with him if you want to learn about Jewish history, you won't regret it!

Professor Ruben is really nice, but his class is quite hard. You have to complete a 10 pages essay based on Jewish history even though it is not a writing-intensive class. But again, he is really nice.

Great professor. I took Jewish Music History, so we had to do service and concert visits. Some additional reading summaries and as usual, a mid-term and final. He's very informative and the exams are easy, if you simply study and do your research. Really difficult to get below a B+/A- in the class.

Really makes the biblical world come to life; & is able to tip-toe around sensitive topics like the Israel Palestine issue. He has a big, caring heart.

Probably shouldn't take this class unless history is your thing. It was really hard to not fall asleep. Long lectures. Didn't read the textbook readings for class, but needed them for the take-home midterm/final(which were not easy)

He is one of the best history professors in Hunter. If you want to boost your GPA, and if you are especially a history major, you will benefit from him. He is super nice and caring,lectures are great. If you want to learn real stuff on history take him.

I am a handicapped student,I was out of school for 3 weeks cuz of my health.I was so worried that he was going to tell me I had to retake the class,but when I spoke to him, he asked me how I was feeling.He didnt penalize me for being out of class,he is understanding, and he is the best proffesor at Hunter! Definatly take his classes.

What a great professor. He makes class so intersting. He gives the test to you before hand. Even though his class is a lot of work, it is worth it. I am a handicapp student, and I have never had a professor who was so accomedating. Definatly take this class.
