Comment:
Hard class because there was minimal teacher input and student interaction. For being a seminar I hoped for more student-to-student interaction, but there was none. He graded slowly and rarely. Had to buy lots of books and essays supposed to be weekly. He didn't follow the syllabus. This class would have been great in person, but was bad online.

Professor Palermo is great! Class was simple and straightforward. Pre-recorded lecture every week, no homework but there are essays you have to write. Exam was doable.

The asynchronous HIST 17B class was great! He actually is interested in what he's talking about and keeps the content interesting. He posts about 1 lecture a week that last between 30 - 90 minutes. You can watch them in 2x speed and take some occasional notes. No homework besides roughly 1 paper/month that is about 3-4 pages.

he tells you to purchase three books we only used one, I strongly believe if we would have been on campus this class would have been better. But I found myself often bored with his recorded lectures.

He spends most of his lectures tallking about his personal thoughts on subjects not related to the topic. Often goes all of the place with his rant, you may listen 40 min lecture without learning anything. He will express his political views heavily. It's my last semester, and so far it was a veary easy but also a boring and not very useful class.

This professor is the reason why I love history. His lectures and discussions on certain topics just made the class super interesting. He's an awesome person in general. He really cares for his students and just wants nothing but the best from YOU. He's very straight up about things, never sugar codes anything. He likes to curse in his lectures.

3 exams and 3 papers based on the readings. The exams are pretty easy since he allows the students to use the study guide. And then for the final exam he allows a front and back cheat sheet. He doesn't upload the slides on canvas so you would want to attend class. He also doesn't put the grades on canvas so you would have to go to his office hours.

Nothing online. Only 2 midterms and response papers for extra credit. No homework. He goes off on a tanget all the time but the class is easy just have to show up sometimes to find out when things are due since he doesn't post ANYTHING online.

This guy is ALL OVER THE PLACE. he is enthusiastic about history but gets off topic ALOT and goes on rants about his thoughts/opinions. The class isnt hard, but get ready to sit and listen to him rant. Read his books, show up for class, and put in any kind of effort you should be fine to pass.

I don't really know what to say about Palermo. His class was not difficult at all. But for an upper division History class about an interesting subject; I did not learn much I already didn't know. He is very caring and knowledgeable however, but he can go off on tangents which ruins his lectures and the class overall. Take him anyway :) Easy A-

Palermo was a fun professor. His lectures were kind of all over the place about what's going on in the world- did not really pertain to the book.. Grades are based off of exams and responses- doesn't use canvas. But the responses are easy and he gives a detailed study guide and we can use a sheet of notes. He is interesting and a great individual.

Very passionate about history. Lectures include mostly him ranting angrily. No phones allowed during lecture. Tests were all writing essays. Doesn't post grades anywhere so you don't know what you have until the end of the semester. Allows 1-2 pages of handwritten notes for tests.

Dr. Palermo is funny and he makes lectures interesting. He encourages student participation, and gives good feedback on papers. Two-page response papers nearly every week, one final essay. Students work in groups of two or three to lead discussions each week.

Palermos History 17B class was very easy for me. There is no homework in the class except for three essays which are relatively easy. There is no group work, you really just have to show up to class. There are three exams and all were pretty easy for me. He is very passionate about what he does and hes a cool guy, i would definitely recommend him.

Yes, there are 4 response papers but you only have to write 2 pages each (double spaced too). He gives out study guides for all 3 exams which is super helpful, and he also allows a whole 8x11 hand written cheat sheet (front and back) for the last 2 exams. He is super passionate about History, and makes hilarious sarcastic jokes during class.

tbh this class was really boring, but was the easiest A I have ever gotten. He even says himself that he tries to pass everyone since it is a GE course. He really likes talking and yelling and his lectures are boring, but if you put in the effort for the tests and response papers you will get an A.

Would definitely recommend taking his class especially if you aren't all that into history. He's funny, energetic, and passionate. Definitely need to study for tests but he gives study guides and covers everything in class. Lecture heavy but his lectures are interesting and relevant.

4 response papers, 3 exams (2 of which he allows 1 pg notes). Palermo makes his TA grade the exams so expect little to no feedback from him. He only grades the papers, and when you ask him about your paper, little to no feedback is given. Adds words onto the study guides he gives and usually NEVER chooses them. Would recommend dif. hist. prof.
