Comment:

IS135 is pretty easy and an easy A as long as you complete the work. I don't have much to say on his teaching because you just complete the modules for a grade. I took it online, so I never met Prof Levin in person, but he's incredibly accessible. He's quick to respond to emails, gives good feedback, and seems friendly.

Great professor. He expects you to put work into his class. He grades at a college level and does not tolerate laziness. He is very knowledgeable and you will learn about programming in this class.

Favorite Professor so far. Didn't like him at first but he's easy to get along with as long as you study. I left his class knowing more about computers than I did before. He does grade hard but you have to expect that in college. This isn't high school. He will let you use open notes but you need to read the book too or you will fail.

Marc Levin is one of the hardest teachers, I've had at stevenson. He is a harsh grader and straight to the point. There was nothing remotely fun about this class. I do not recommend his class if you're looking to do easy work and get by. Get ready to do extensive research for homework assignments.

Professor Levin explains programming concepts well. Take good notes in his class. He is strict about cell phone usage and in general being off-topic but will respect you if you respect him. A lot of assigned projects - helps with understanding Visual Basic and programming concepts. A few tests - study because they aren't a walk in the park.

Spends 13 of class time discussing his own achievements and exploits, which are rarely relevant to the class. Knows more than some of the other teachers, but is still doing basic projects in 300-level classes. He has little regard for students time or learning ability. If you like programming you will do well, but you'll still dread his classes.

Very, very knowledgeable. Can be abrasive at times but that is just his personality. There is no better teacher for an intro to programming class at this school. You will learn everything you need to know and more. If you pay attention he will have no problem helping you outside of class.

I took several classes from Levin when I was there. He IS a bit of a jerk at times & a bit self-important, but he knows his stuff. He's strict on following requirements, but that's a real reflection of working life. He is easily the best programming teacher there & the one you'll learn the most from. Take it from someone employed for 2 years now.

He was not the easiest teacher in the world, and I really struggled in the beginning, but if you really push yourself and make an effort to understand the information you will be completely fine. And if you do well throughout the class he may even bump you up at the end of the semester if you are at a 92.1 he'll give you an A. You do have to work.

I got a job from the skills I learned in this course last year. I struggled in class but now I can really program and my boss loves my work. Don't be scared by other review. Do the work and pay attention always.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is horribly inefficient. He tells stories about his life that have absolutely no relevance to the coursework. Instead of spending class time working on the assignments, he lectures about absolutely nothing. To top it off he bangs on the bored as he continuously repeats useless information. Bottom line: Avoid him.

Everyone who complains about him doesn't want to go to class or put any effort in. I loved his class, favorite professor so far. If you pay attention and go to class it's not hard at all. He's a very structured teacher and knows what he is talking about. Definitely want to take class with him again.

"For those of you going into forensics..." is the most tiring phrase. He thinks everyone who is going into computer forensics needs to know this stuff and it gets annoying how he keeps saying that. He says that for networking students as well. It didn't help that I was a former nursing major in a class with people who knew a lot about computers.

He talks about his life 99% of the time rather than teaching you about the subject. He also teaches like you already know what you are doing. He is very anal. Dont take him unless you know what you are doing with computer.

If you don't do your work the way "he would have done it" he takes off points. Very easy to know exactly what your doing and do everything perfect in his class and still get a bad grade.
