Pronounce a French word wrong? You get a "Huhhh?" from her. Make a French sentence that has mistakes or she doesn't understand the sentence you made? You get a "QUOI?!" (WHAT?!) from her. This is extremely discouraging for students trying to learn a second language. I wonder if she knows that words like "pardon" exist.

Had to switch sections before the add/drop deadline so don't take my comment seriously. I feel like you will learn a lot in her class as long as you can deal with her hostility and rudeness. With that being said, her teaching style was definitely NOT for me. (Also I just noticed 4 out of 10 sections of FRSL 101 are taught by her)

I took 105 (intensive level 1) and 215 (intensive level 3) with her(that's 12 credits with her!)Her 105 was okay, but her 215 was absolutely horrible! Messy and unorganized! I think she is not capable of teaching a level 3 course and she knows it, as she chooses to teach FOUR level 1 course next term, and it's better she stays out of higher levels.

You can basically find the word "tough grader" in every McGill French professeur's review on rate my prof. However, this lady takes the word to a whole new level.

This professor does not respect her students. I have had five different French professors at McGill, and she is the only one that uses "tu" instead of "vous" to her students. I understand it is perfectly normal to use "tu" since she is older than us, but the lack of respect translates into many things throughout the course.

I had her for French 101, and I didn't know how terrible she was until I had another professor for French 102. This old grumpy lady gives us really bad marks for literally no reason.

I took frsl 215 with her summer 2021. She took marks off my presentation for not being "charismatic enough" during the presentation. If you choose to use S/U, she is a super helpful professor for improving your French. HOWEVER, if you don't use S/U and still want to perserve your GPA, RUN FORREST RUN!

She is a very grumpy and impatient professor. She treats us all like we are already fluent in french but this course is just one level above the beginner level. When we made mistakes during the class, she would get very angry with an obnoxious attitude, which I really couldn't put up with it. In a nutshell, worst course ever.

I'm not sure why she has such a good rating, I had her for online so maybe she's better in person. But I do not recommend, she gets angry if you don't understand. She gives back grades super late, so I wasn't able to tell how I was doing until a week before the final. French is a hard to learn but her abrasive teaching makes it worse

I agree with a previous entry describing this prof's hostility. She's really good at making you feel ashamed if you had a small misunderstanding or if you don't have the correct answer in class. She also speaks to the "special needs" students in front of the whole class about their accommodations which is very embarrassing for them.

This is a language course, so you should be prepared for a lot of homework and group projects. Despite all the work given, this prof makes learning great, she has a great sense of humour, and she has a passion to teach. In this course you'll truly get what you put in, and while an A is achievable you gotta work for it. Would take her again!

No mandatory attendance but attending her live class could be really helpful as there are many group conversation practices with your classmates. Also, she gave valuable and detailed feedback for our pronunciation and grammar. She is a really friendly prof and her live class is really interesting! Pls take French courses with her!

Learning a language is difficult and takes a lot of time and effort, so be prepared. Her feedback is specific and extremely helpful, especially in regards to pronunciation, for which shes a stickler. She will call you out in class, but it does help you learn. Lots of group/partners projects, which are kind of a pain, but doable.

She is a nice lecture, but also a harsh grader. Better to correct mistakes in the beginning of the French learning. She is a little bit impatient when you ask questions. You can learn a ton of stuff from the class. It's a good choice!

If you're driven to learn and can cope with hostility, you won't have problems. But if you're like me, who didn't have a passion for French, whose efforts were limited given enrolment in 5 courses, it was hard. My biggest problem though was how rude she was. Incredibly impatient, rude, and confrontational when anyone would make an honest mistake

Prof Kwan-Lock is one of the best profs I've met in McGill. She's kind, helpful and hilarious. Her lectures are crystal-clear. And she's always there for you if you have any questions. I ABSOLUTELY love her. I took both 101 and 102 with her. It's such a pity that she doesn't teach FRSL 207:(
