Comment:
Dr. Hewitt presents history as interesting and intricate stories, rather than mindless blocks of text needed to be memorized. With a fair grading process and leniency in required participation, he put together an enjoyable course I would gladly take again.

Only 3 grades in the whole class and ALL are tests. He is extremely lecture heavy with absolutely no visual aid or access to notes after class. Tests are essays so multiple choice is out of the window. Makes you take up to 40 pages of notes between test and only uses about 10% of that information on it. Extremely hard to prepare for tests.

I hated his class at first, it was so boring I felt like I could fall asleep. But he is very detailed with his lectures and it is clear what he expects you to know. I only went to the SI sessions right before the exam and they helped tremendously. I hardly read the book, I just googled information. It was an easy A if you go to the SI sessions.

Take him in the summer and he's SUPER easy...he doesn't require essays in the summer. But his tests are straight from his notes. I never got the book and still did well in his class and trust me, i'm not the best history student..if i can do it, yall can too. take him, he's better than the other professors.

His class is very difficult, but if you ask for help he will do his best to try and get you an A in his class. After reading previous reviews I now understand what his "violent outburst" are. wow. Those are scary.

Dr. Hewitt is in no way the easiest Prof at MSU. He cares deeply about his students and will arrange tutoring sessions with either himself or his G.A., whenever a student actually cares to make an effort. However, the book is horrible and is a requirement for the class. I can promise you, if you read, you will do very well in Dr. Hewitt?s class. I

As a history major, I had Hewitt quite a bit. If he comes to class with something to say, he isn't that bad. On days when he's just winging it, I could easily fall asleep in the pauses between sentences. Likes to scare freshman, but upper level courses just require a lot of reading/studying. Nothing too extreme.

Clearly wishes he were retired. So do we. He's not interested. Lectures are poorly organized stream-of-consciousness ramblings that lapse periodically into incoherent mumbling. Study guides are much like lectures--incoherent. Flunked nearly half the class on the first test and rather seemed to enjoy that. Run away from this one!

Funniest prof. on the campus, a lot of ppl don't like him b/c they think he expects too much, but if you just listen to him, he will tell you exactly what he wants you to write on the essay parts of the test almost word for word, again he's a hilarious guy!

Dr. Hewitt is so not funny that it is hilarious. He has such a strange dry sense of humor. He is a good prof. but an incredibly boring lectuerer. I couldn't stand his weekly quizes until I figured out that he was only grading based on the ammount you wrote. I.E. the more you wrote the better your grade. He may have since changed, but I doubt it.
