Comment:
Most rewarding for those who actively want to understand philosophical concepts. Dr. Groves is a great prof. who is flexible and explains concepts thoroughly. He's a tough grader and requires long in-depth papers, pay attention to lecture/take notes and you'll be fine. Book helps with tests and extra context. He loves participation and discussion.

This class literally sucked the life out of me. It required only 4 tests and 4 papers. However the papers are intense and cover a ton of material- over 200 textbook pages plus multiple videos, lectures, and powerpoints. Each of my papers was over 10 pages and truly required all of the 4 weeks you have to complete the assignment. Take another prof!

This class requires you to think, so get ready to read. It was as fundamental as it was inspiring. Groves does a great job instructing you of what you need to do, as well as provides what you'll need for understanding. He made online learning great. I am so sad to see this class end, it was truly one of my favorites. Thank you, Dr. Groves!

This was hands-down the most intellectually rewarding class. Be prepared to work hard, but everything you'll learn in this class is fundamental and inspiring. He does a great job of presenting moral questions from an unbiased standpoint and allows you to respond from your own point of view. I'm so upset that the class is over, great proffessor!!

Would not take again, makes you read over 100 pages just do an assignment. Graded on four topics that require quiz and paper. The quizzes allow 2 attempts, but second time questions have different answers and does not make sense. Does not respond to emails, takes weeks to do so. Gives decent feedback on papers is only plus.

He is one of the most spirited professors I've ever had. I would recommend attending his lectures, this guy has a lot of stories to tell. He is so excited to teach this class and makes it a blast for the students. He is a tough grader, but if you talk to him about your grade he will likely help you out. Just a very wholesome guy!

If you don't attend lecture, you won't pass because the tests are straight memorizing the lectures. He's respectful when talking about controversial topics. Tests are composed of 4 full page responses about certain philosophical topics. Be prepared to study 2 hours for each test if you want to pass. He offers extra credit: 1pt per essay page: yikes

Very lecture heavy and unorganized. The material is scattered and the amount of information crammed into one class period is incredibly confusing to say the least.

I found the lectures very interesting. There is a required textbook that contains all the info and helps a lot with the tests. I would recommend going to all lectures because its makes his exams easier. He gives unlimited opportunity for extra credit. I would take him again for other classes.

I sometimes struggle to understand the material in this course, but I love the class, so interesting! Dr. Groves is a very nice professor. Great feedback on assignments, flexible, speedy replies to emails. I only wish I lived close to B Rap so I could take his class in person. I'd bet he has awesome lectures, because the book he co-wrote is great!

The test are very difficult and require a lot of studying. His lecture is powerpoint based which has about 30 slides each subject and he goes through way too fast. there's no homework but still one of my hardest classes.

He enjoys this subject and that shows but he will make you feel like you will never be as smart as him. Quizzes are easy. Tough questions but easily passable. 4 major written assignments that are lengthy and difficult and graded inconsistently. Beware he added an assignment to our class after the syllabus and many missed it.

Online class that required lots of independent work and reading. He would be inconsistent at times with expectations and grading. Definitely do-able but will make you work for your grades.

Poorly organized and poorly taught. Completely unclear on what you should even be trying to learn during the lecture. Types random words on Microsoft word for notes but doesn't explain how they are used in relation to the topic or what we need to know about them.

Good deal of homework with this class; however, Professor Groves is flexible with working with students schedules. 400-700 word essays on assigned chapters each week, a few quizzes, and 1 paper. While I thought there was more homework than necessary, his flexibility made the class manageable to take with a busy schedule.

there are only 3 grades in the book and they're all tests, but he wants you to ask for EC. If you go to class, take notes, and pay attention it's an EASY class. His lectures are a little scattered but if you pay attention you will keep up! They're easy to pay attention b/c of the topic. You watch A LOT of video clips. This was my favorite class!

He's very scattered almost every day. His lectures are all over the place and if you look back at his powerpoints, they're very hard to follow. The tests are mostly essay, and require hours of preparation, but there's no homework. If you say what he wants to hear, you should be fine. Wouldn't take him again if I had the choice.

I took this class online, and it was time-consuming and frustrating. The tests are challenging, but doable if you read the material. There are five long papers (making up 55% of the grade) to write with very little to go on for rubrics/instructions. His unfairness in grading these monstrous papers (10-20 pgs) was infuriating. Would not recommend.

LOVED HIM. One of my favorite professors. If you show up and take good notes you'll do well on the tests. You have to study though, tests are essay style. I overall learned a bunch of things and it was very interesting. By the end of the semester I actually looked forward to his class. Overall very good prof.
