Dr. L really knows his stuff. His knowledge was easily passed onto me. The class is fairly simple as long as you take notes, which he provides on Blackboard as well so you can catch up if you miss something. If you take notes and do the online assignments, and look through old test material ( on Blackboard as well) you will pass the class.

Dr. Lotspeich is the best professor I've had at ISU. He's knowledgeable, passionate, and provides detailed explanations for the work assigned and grading. I find it near impossible to fail ECON 201 with him with all of the resources he provides for you. But you have to be willing to listen in class and look at resources he provides on blackboard

The absolute worst professor I have ever had. Did not notify the class of aplia until we were in class and already had assignments due by the next class. Extremely hard tests, a lot of homework assignments, always lecturing from powerpoints. He makes you look stupid 9/10 times you answer something.

Lotspeich is a brilliant man who knows economics. The textbook is online and if you talk one on one with him and use his office hours you should be fine. Only criticism is that he does go over the time.

The man is a genius. That being said, he will grade you like a genius would. Nice enough guy, but a very rigorous class. Expects 2-3 hours of independent study per hour of class lecture. It is definitely doable, but rather difficult for someone just needing an economic credit. If you like a challenge, go for it. If hesitant, steer clear.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Especially if you are not an Econ major. He knows the material but he's an awful teacher. He takes things way to serious and is a hard grader. AVOID TAKING HIM IF POSSIBLE!

Worst professor I have ever had. He is a genius at economics, but can't relay that to the students. His lectures are all over the place. He'll explain 5 ways to do one problem while simultaneously explaining how to do another problem so you can't learn step by step.

Dr. L clearly knows all the material, just doesn't know how to teach it and make it understandable to college students. All class, every class, you are to frantically take note page after page, while trying to comprehend the terms, graphs, formulas, etc that he is trying to throw at you. Very difficult to understand, barely passed with a C-

Dr. L is a great professor. Don't expect to get by without doing any work. He is clear about his expectations, but is willing to work with you. Economics is a tough subject in general. Sometimes it's hard to understand the material, but he is more than willing to help you. Give him a chance.

Comment:
Dr. L is a solid professor. Clearly knows the material inside and out, and is always willing to answer whatever questions a student may have. Sometimes he can engage in overly technical Econ lingo that goes over most students heads though, myself included. Not much HW, just a weekly online assignment using Aplia, which contains the book.

Give him time! Dr.Lotspeich(Dr.L) is a great professor who's attention to detail & genuine concern for students are his greatest qualities. Impressively, Dr.L took criminology & successfully applied it with an econ twist. By the end of the class we could see how Econ&Crim were really intertwined. If you want a teacher who inspires Dr.L is it.

I wouldn't take this class. This is the first bad teacher I feel like I've ever had in my life. Nice guy, knows what he's talking about, but he just does not know how to teach to students. If you can stand to have facts and information rapid fired at you while your frantically writing notes, then this class would be right up your alley.

Dr. L is an intelligent guy, but if you aren't already very familiar with the content of his class, his explanations can be difficult to understand. I ignore him and just write his notes because if I listen, I just get confused. I recommend either take the class with someone else or go to office hours for help. Great 1 on 1, bad lecturer.

Dr. L was an average professor. I never really had any problems with him. If I ever needed any help he was always willing to do whatever he could. However, he is a bit paranoid about school shootings. At the beginning of the semester he assigns people to be "security callers" so that if there is a shooting we can contact security.

I really did not like this class at all, Like everyone has said, he is very intelligent, but lacks the ability to get the point across. Acts like he is talking to other economist. He really needs to figure out how to change his teaching technique, students do not learn from him. Do not take a class with this professor!

He is not the type of teacher to just let people all get A's without trying. He makes you work for your grade. However, I have learned a lot in his class, and I feel like he communicates the information well. He gives great lectures. I think that Dr. L is a great prof!

He has the unfortunate task of teaching economics so rite off the bat, people are going to not like him...but he is fair and THOROUGHLY covers the material (maybe sometimes too thoroughly...) He gives homework every week, but it's really only meant to help you

he tries to explain one concept in a bunch of different ways so it ends up being more confusing in the end. he also uses big words where a simple word could have been more understanding. he flies through the material, and when you ask a question he kind of makes you feel like an idiot.

Dr. L is a very nice Professor. He is long winded but he explains things in detail. He always asks if people have questions and really answer them. Doesn't make you feel stupid when you give a wrong answer.
