Prof doesn't use a rubric, so I often felt that I didn't know her expectations. You will be MUCH better off going to class and doing readings on time. Lectures were interesting but she spoke fast and was slow to upload notes so I never felt like I had enough info to write 5 papers. 3 papers had multiple choice sections, midterm essay, final paper.

The grading for this class is extremely difficult for no discernible reason. Professor Homza does not provide any real expectations for the papers and expects students to just know. This is a 100 level history class and no support was provided to new history students. If you are not a history major I highly discourage you from taking this class.

She is one of my favorite professors I have had at William & Mary. She is a super nice lady and her lectures are engaging. Never had an issue staying awake in her class. She grades fairly and is always willing to work with you. There is a decent amount of reading, but it is pretty average for history courses.

Despite the tough grading, Professor Homza is the sweetest woman I have ever met. She's extremely passionate about the Reformation and she loves to engage students in conversations. Even though there wasn't much in the way of what to write down for notes, she still gave interesting lectures. Highly recommend!

Dr. Homza has been an absolute gem during the Covid-wrecked semester. When I and another student couldn't come to class, she just held an extra lecture for us over the weekend like an independent study of sorts. I know that must of been annoying but she seemed delighted to do it. She's very passionate about her subject which makes her class a joy.

Shes an remarkable expert on the Inquisition. Shes also very combative without provocation. For example, she interrupted a question to incorrectly corrected me on a matter of Catholic nomenclature in a chastising way (speaking as a member of Catholic lay ministry, our words were both correct, too!). Class was a weird & disheartening experience

I love early European History but this class was a bear. Professor Homza is nice but a really tough grader when it comes to essays and this class is all essays. Classes consist of lectures and the occasional discussion. She doesn't allow computers in her class. The non-essay parts of exams are based on the most minute details of the lectures.

Professor Homza is a nice professor but she grades papers very hard. If you are a history major, I would recommend taking at least one course with her to sharpen your writing abilities as she provides great feedback and is always available to help. Just be warned this isn't an easy A class.

Professor Homza is an expert in her field. She invests a lot in her students and will help you out a lot if you go to office hours. She's a tough, but fair grader. Readings are well-chosen and relevant to class. Would definitely recommend to majors and non majors a like.

The best professor I've had. Her lectures are engaging and she works hard to make the material interesting, and succeeds. She expects a lot, and can be a stickler with writing, but I took HIST 111 at 8am and it was still my favorite class

Although Homza is a pretty hard grader and sometimes assigns an inordinate amount of reading, her interesting lectures and class discussions really make it worth it. She's a great professor and very personable- I really recommend taking her class, even if you don't have much background in the subject.

I had two classes; one was a 300-level survey. It was great. She worked us hard but was enthusiastic and I got a good grade. The other was a 400-level colloquium, and it was awful. She constantly changed the syllabus and requirements mid-semester, yelled at students and was basically unhinged. Go figure. Got an A one semester, and a B- the other.

I didnt like her. She is very superficial in how she teaches, talking/glaring at students, feigning excitement, fast, a generally uncomfortable atmosphere. Very heavy on reading primary sources and meticulous in grading essays. Does give out questions to final ahead of time though. don't take her for supposed inspiring personality (was my mistake)

I absolutely loved Professor Homza and her class. It is challenging, but she gives back as much hard work to the class as she expects from those in it. She is very helpful if you seek out her assistance. I would definitely recommend her!

One of my favorite lecturers. Also leads dynamic and interesting discussions. Well-chosen primary source documents. Mean outside of class, however - was hostile when I went to see her as though I was interrupting important work - even though it was during office hours. I know of other students who felt treated this way as well.
