She's awesome for an intro class. Does a lot of lecturing, but she's understanding if her students are behind on reading. Pop quiz for each reading: Joseph Andrews, Frankenstein, As I Lay Dying, Kindred, and Watchmen. Very few hw besides reading. Only thing is it is hard to see her after class as she is very busy. Flexible with our needs.

Dr. Elias is a great professor. I would highly recommend her to anyone. There is a lot of reading involved with her class, but it is an English class so that is expected with the territory. She is very passionate about her work and is willing to help when needed.

Her indepth analysis of the books in AMAZING! I didnt read any of the books all the way through and did fine. She is a nice person who actually cares about you as an individual. She likes discussions and input during class as well as a few pop quizzes. The only bad thing was there were only 4 grades for the entire class. 2 papers 2 tests.

Prof. Elias is very passionate about her job, and it shows in her class. She tries hard to make reading several books barable for her students, and we even got to read Watchmen as the final book of the semester. Her pop quizzes are very hard, and she tends to grade tough. The Mid-term and Final are not cumulative, which is a big plus.

Her tests are difficult--she wants you to think and to put thought into your answers. Her essays were pretty cool for English essays; I usually made good grades on them, and that's what save me, I think. Her lectures are insane and her passion and desire to teach and help open students' eyes is even more intense! I've even read some of her books.

Great professor. Extremely involved in her work and cares a great deal for the society in which we live. Not a difficult class. Open your eyes--read Freud, ignore him, then read Marx, and apply him. Elias will help you perceive what you didn't perceive before. She could do well in industry but prefers to help the young see their surroundings.

Difficult grader-- I made some A's on essays, but then busted my ass on one and got an A-. Incredible lecturer, though. Communicates theory in a way that is invigorating. She makes learning theory feel like a social enterprise.

Dr. Elias is very passionate about her field and it shows. Although, I'm not too crazy on how she grades papers because I think she nit-picks. She marked my papers off for things that no other professor has in the past.

Dr. Elias is perhaps one of the most intelligent people I've ever run into. The work is incredibly challenging and she expects a LOT of her students, but in the end, I came out with a better understanding (& maybe a a headache) of why she does what she does. She passionate & longs to spread her passion--which she does with absolute perfection!

Her passion for literary criticism is so palpable and her encouragement of your personal thought process is avid throughout the course. The class is very challenging, but you will gain so much from her fervor towards this topic! Definitely take her if you have the opportunity- you'll improve your writing and critical analysis skills!

She's hard in the best way, in that she will press you to really think and engage. However, I believe most people do get good grades -- she expects a lot, but she's hardly a hardass about it. What's more, give her an hour and you'll have no doubt she is passionate about the literature she discusses and incredibly, fantastically intelligent.

I went back to UT not sure if I wanted to finish my English degree and go to graduate school or not. Dr. Elias was the first class I had going back and after three classes, I knew that I wanted a career as an English professor. I will always consider this woman my mentor. She helped me get where I am today as both a scholar AND a person.

She is really hard and yes she makes you think but I have never had a teacher that was so unorganized. She hardly stuck to her syllabus and she is the hardest professor to get in touch with. She is terrible at replying to emails!

Doctor Elias revitalized my hope in higher education. She's wonderfully intelligent, nice, understanding, and gives assignments that make sense and really do help you learn. She's probably the hardest teacher I've had, but that's because she was set on making us think and learn. If you want a genuine learning experience, please, please take her.

The best professor in UT's english department by far. I'm not going to sugar coat, she's hard as hell and the work load is intense. However, I walked out of her class with more knowledge than any other english class I've ever taken at UT.
