You can tell he knows what he's talking about. However, his class was one of the worst experiences I've faced in my academic career. His comments on essays presented as condescending and rude rather than constructive and helpful. He refused to provide examples. His demeanor presented as unapproachable. I plan to avoid his classes now.

TAKE HONORS IF YOU CAN! Graded by a midterm, paper, a presentation/summary on assigned chapters, and final. The midterm isn't hard, so long as you read the first book, the paper (12-18 pgs) took me 2 weeks, and I didn't read the last 2 books, but I did fine on the final - make sure you review the summaries people make for their presentations.

I really enjoyed Soloski and found his class interesting. Dont take this class if youre not a journalism major or prepared to work hard. That being said, people on this website who complain likely have a hard time not getting special treatment. Hes clear with expectations. Meet them and youll do finedont expect him to hold your hand.

Leaving his class a better person because it has made me a harder worker, and more critical consumer of media. I'm sure I won't have another professor the quality of Dr. Soloski ever again. Great!

This class is ridiculous and is definitely the weed-out class of Grady. He covers so much content over the semester that it makes it literally impossible to do well. The entire class is on a curve, so its hard to fail, but it is also very hard to make an A. He states in the syllabus "only 20% of u will make an A in this class." Wouldn't recommend

I'm not a journalism major and took this class for fun. BIG MISTAKE! Don't take this class unless you HAVE to for your major. His lectures are boring and the news quizzes are impossible. The tests are poorly worded and he is very condescending to students and his TA who is there to HELP him. Do not (and I can't stress this enough) take this class.

Soloski is really knowledgeable, however, he does come across as condescending at times. He assigns hundreds of pages of readings a week, but rarely tests on them. His exams arent impossible, but you have to be in class to do well. The news quizzes are just awful - extremely difficult and worded confusingly.

In all honesty, if you're not the type of person to put effort into classes, you'll absolutely fail. Without a doubt. If you do all of the reading (of which there is a lot), come to class ready to participate, and study, you'll get an A or a B. It's really not that hard. Just do the work and don't blame failure on what is a mediocre professor.

Dr. Soloski seems well-educated and passionate about media studies, but his classes often become hour-long rants about seemingly unrelated topics, which he never ties back in or explains. He asks for participation, but then corrects us and makes us look silly in front of everyone when we contribute (on opinion-based matters!) I learned little.

Dr. Soloski is tough, but he really does care a lot. If you take his honors intro course, it will definitely be a lot of work readings, discussions, papers (no MC tests). That said, you can use that to your advantage. If you can write, you'll do great. If you can't, he WILL help. He is knowledgeable & helpful, and he gives great career advice.

I took this class to familiarize myself with Journalism and it was a fair amount of work. There were 3 required books and his class is lecture/powerpoint heavy, but he posted them online. The review sessions before the tests are SUPER helpful (if you have a good TA). It's a little tough but graded on a curve. If you put in the work you'll do fine

This class is tough. He made us get 3 books that he never talked about. His lectures are boring and sometimes he goes off topic. I would not recommend this class if you're not a Grady Major. It is not an Easy A! Study hard for those News Quizzes they are the worst. I was so happy when I was done with that class.

Taking this class was probably my biggest regret, especially because I am not a journalism major. Took this class because it was an intro Grady course and I hoped to get an easy A but if you're not interested in lecture heavy material about current events and boring historical journalism facts, don' take the course.

Soloski has an extremely unlikable personality to the point where it distracts from the lectures (which is all the class is). Asks questions just for you to answer so he can say you're wrong in front of the whole class and then doesn't even explain the correct answer. Seems like he genuinely enjoys making people look stupid. So glad to be done.

Definitely one of those classes you need to study a lot for, but do not bother reading the texts he assigns. I enjoyed this class, but a lot of the lectures were not totally relevant to our field. But with that being said, it was all very interesting. I would not take this if you are not a journalism major.

I'm a journalism major & I thoroughly enjoy the content covered in class. He mixes videos and other media in his lectures that help break up the monotony. News quizzes are awfully unpredictable (in content, not days) but the grades are curved so if you at least show up and try, you won't fail it. The tests are fairly simple if you show up to class.

I am a journalism major and I thoroughly enjoyed this class. His lectures were pretty straight forward and the tests weren't bad at all if you put aside some time to study. The news quizzes could be difficult for people who do not already keep up with news. So, if you're not a journalism major, I would skip this class because its not just an easy A

I found that his lectures were extremely interesting- very discussion-based and thought provoking, almost like a Ted Talks; however, because the lectures were based on questions of moral conflict and ambiguity, not much of the material was obviously study-able. The powerpoints mostly consisted of open ended questions. He is also very opinionated.

There is nothing wrong with Soloski or his class per se. However, the course material was not what I was expecting at all; we spent a lot of time talking about things like AT&T, Netflix, and net neutrality. Every grade is curved, so it's easy to do well but hard to get an A. Don't take his class if you're not a journalism major.

If you go to class and pay attention to what he says you'll be fine. He goes over everything he tests you on. His tests aren't cumulative. There are some books he assigns but I got away with reading a few chapters, if any, and made A's on tests. Basically, attend class, take notes, read them before the test and you'll do well. If you skip, you fail
