Dr Yilmaz has been a top notch mentor for me. Being an international student in the US and coming from a country not at the best terms with her country she quickly manage to make any reservations I had dissapeared and prove herself to be an excellent teacher with an in depth knowledge of her area of interest.

SIU is fortunate to have Dr. Yilmaz as a faculty member. If you have the opportunity to take one of her classes, it will benefit you to do so. She cares about, and is always willing to take time for, her students. Oh, and did I mention she is both brilliant and beautiful?

I love Dr. Yilmaz! She is one of the best in the history department. I don't know why she doesn't have a better rating on here.

Comment:
Took the Arab-Israeli Conflict course with her. It was really, really, interesting and for the most part she remained unbiased! I wish she would have lectured on more relevant information - it was mostly the same stuff over and over again. Some assignments I felt like I was flying blind. But she just got back from sabbatical; so I can understand.

Comment:
I took Dr. Yilmaz's HS 551 and 552 courses. Both were terrific, though work-intensive. No one should go into a graduate seminar not expecting to produce quality writing, heavy in analysis. My favorite parts of these classes were the discussion, and the one-on-one interaction with the professor. Dr. Yilmaz takes a great interest in each student.
