Comment:
I'm a math major who knows very little about biology, so this class was a little difficult at first. Midterm wasn't too terrible, he curved it pretty well. The final is going to be take-home, so that's cool. The class consists of worksheets and coding labs (in python). Worksheets are easy, labs tend to be more difficult. Overall, not too bad.

I am about to graduate college with a math degree, and Marshall is by far one of the worst profs I've had at UMD. He's completely uninterested in teaching or helping students succeed. This class has stressed me out more than any other class I've ever taken. 0/10 recommend.

Hampton is a crazy smart guy, as others have said. He often times seems a little bored in class, almost as if he just wants to continue his research. He provides good examples in class that are a little hard to understand at first. Asking questions can get you very far in this class. He has a ton of office hours and is very helpful during that time

He's a great professor, but often times seems to have trouble with explaining the overall implications of some lessons, as well as some of the lessons themselves to students. Very lecture heavy, with a lot of work done in class with groups, and daily worksheets pretty much used as an attendance grade. Exam review is almost exactly like the exams!

You should go to class because he does an example problem and then you work with a group to finish a worksheet similar to the example. Tests are set up to match them. He had a lot of office hours that I went to at least once a week and was very helpful. He's so smart that he won't understand your confusion, but still tries to help as much as he can

Hampton is far and away the best math professor I've had, and I've had quite a few. His lectures are split between worksheets and lecture which makes the hour go quickly. The weekly homework is challenging and stretches your understanding, but tests are core concepts with plenty of review offered. One side note: learn Python basics for the lab.

not trying to be salty, trying to be honest. While I see all the rating and comments below,I came for the truth. His lecture is kind of weird, most of the time it doesn't make sense, or you can say it is useless. He only teaches for 25 minutes and let you work on group worksheet for 25 mins. Test is easy, the lab is horrible. Study by your own.

Crazy smart guy, seemed like he would get bored with teaching us this stupid ish and he would mumble and skip parts, like he would fall asleep if he actually wrote out this easy (not actually that easy) part of a problem. Had worksheets in class that you do as groups, every day. Used sage for the labs, tougher than mathematica. Sweet ponytail

His lecture is set up where he lectures about 25 mins before you work on group worksheets. I found this layout helpful to work through problems with classmates. It seemed weird at first, but by the end of the semester his class was my favorite. The tests are very straightforward and similar to the review and worksheet problems.

Tests are pretty easy f you know the material. HW is very challenging and is made on his own so no using google for answers. Daily wks in class everyday so attendance in mandantory. only thing I didnt like is that he spends a lot of time teaching you stuff that you dont really need to know. It is just cool to him. Overall pretty good

Hampton is unconventional to say the least. It seems like he makes his lectures up as he goes. He has daily worksheets, they are easy if you work in a group. He wants you to do well in his class. His exams are not tricky at all. For the most part, he will tell you exactly what is on it. I would recommend taking a prior CS class because of lab

Fantastic overall. Obviously cares about the material. Really goes above and beyond what is required. Understanding but holds high standards of his students understandably so. Kinda odd but funny in his own way. At first seems pretty normal overall, but soon you realize this man is absolutely brilliant. Though not mandatory, don't skip class.

This guys is a genius, but sometimes has a bit of trouble explaining the material. Attendance mandatory for daily worksheets, but they're easy and help you learn the material. Highly recommend at least taking CS 1 before this class as the lab has a bit of coding. Easy stuff if you know basic programming logic though (if-statements, for loops)

Hampton is a great professor. He uses worksheets in class to help us learn it. He challenges you on the homework, he is really helpful in office hours, and his tests are easy. If you do the practice test, you will get a A on the test.

His teaching style is awesome. Instead of lecturing forever, we do group worksheets which help a lot in understanding concepts. Tests are do-able and very similar to pretests. His stories are really crazy but he's hilarious! He also cancels class for Diff Eq about 8 times because the credits don't transfer right (he'll explain better about this).

Great teacher! Very intelligent guy, and explains questions well, taught class with out a specific text book, used group worksheets. Tests were pretty easy, Homework and practice tests are nearly the same as the tests. Take him.

Lectures are near useless and attendance is really just not needed, however, he does give pre-tests which HIGHLY resemble actual tests, making them that much easier. Good, real smart guy... but not that great of teacher.

nicest programming geek you'll ever meet. just sorta spaced-out. prone to random tangents. if you don't code now, you will by the end of the semester.
