By far the best professor I've ever taken in my academic career. His lectures are interesting, he really cares about you learning the material, and as long as you study and ask questions, you'll do great! He's a gem of a teacher, and I'd take him again no matter what the subject because I know I'd learn a lot coming out of it.

Dr. Shinn was probably one of the best professor I've ever taken as a bio major. He was always available outside of class to answer any questions and was always willing to help his student achieve. His office door was always opened for students to come in to talk about school, life, or anything in general. I really enjoyed histology with Dr. Shinn.

Dr. Shinn is incredible. He's very accomplished in his research, yet may be the most down-to-earth prof at Truman. He really cares about his students. He knew our names by the 2nd day! Exams are tough but he gives plenty of helpful handouts and practice exams. He loves answering questions and is never condescending. Very upbeat guy, always smiling!

Most class lectures were centered on student-driven discussion of the chapters to be read for that day. Biweekly journals allow you to go more in depth on the chapters or other topics, but have no real requirements other than page length and relevance to class material. The final paper took some work but he was clear expectations of what he wants

Dr. Shinn is a terrific instructor. He was the professor for two of my classes and also mentored me in undergraduate research. He is an engaging and challenging fella, and a great hands-on teacher.

Dr. Shinn was an amazing professor. I took him for histology and loved every minute of it.Attendance is not mandatory, but you won't pass the class if you don't go. He was very helpful and was made the subject fun. It was a little rough because his grades are based on tests and quizzes and they're both very hard, but he was definitely worth taking!

The last rating is spot on. He's very nice and is always willing to help. He kept things interesting and wasn't uptight about anything, including deadlines. It really helps to have an understanding, easy going professor, but that certainly doesn't mean he isn't knowledgeable. Because he is. I would love to get to take another class with him.

I only had Dr. Shinn for my freshman biology seminar, but I get the feeling that he's pretty laid back in all his classes. I turned in this big paper that we had to write almost 2 weeks late and got full credit. Very nice man. Just wants his kids to succeed and he's very willing to help you along the way. I'd take him again for a real class.
