Comment:
This class is very easy if you sit down and read the 75-100 pages of reading a week that Dr. Embrick assigns. He is a very knowledgeable instructor and has worked in the field for many years. He tends to get a little rant-y, and his lectures definitely have a liberal lean to them, but if you show up and do the readings, his class is very easy.

Great guy, great teacher. Many of the assigned articles can be googled or found in the Loyola library database. He even uploaded an entire textbook which he edited to a public site. He goes over nearly every topic you need to know for the tests in class lectures, so you really should go. Just skim the readings so you can refer to names on tests.

This is by far the most interesting professor I have learned from. Funny, interesting and eye opening. Fair and laid back, but does not tolerate those who do not like reading. If you can't read, then attend lectures. One of the best out there for sure. Would love to pick his brain.

Embrace does not really "teach" in his class. He doesn't explain terms or anything like that. Tests are solely based on the readings he assigns, which is many, and that is it. If you do not comprehend readings well, I wouldn't take this class.

Embrick just wants you to read the homework articles for the exams. The exams are weirdly phrased, but he grades very easily. 4 Actions steps, 3 written exams, 1 noncumulative final. DO NOT BUY HIS BOOK!! It costs $100, and it's just a collection of famous articles you can Google! Easy A if you scan the readings and remember a few details.

Just 4 tests- no written homework or attendance grade. If you read everything that is assigned (which is a lot, but not impossible), you'll have no problem on the tests. He reads off a powerpoint every class, fairly interesting material. There isn't any class discussion, so be prepared to sit & take notes every class. Overall, easy if you read.

He was really funny but his lectures last the whole block and he's really bland and unclear. you're gonna have to read everything he puts on the syllabus in order to pass. He goes way too fast through his powerpoint and doesn't let you finish writingtyping notes and he doesn't put his notes on Sakai. Only 3 tests and a final. NO hw or papers.

Has his TA teach the class occasionally. The required book is one he wrote himself, and is almost $100. Difficult to reach if you need extra help. Would not reccomend.

This is the first class that has ever opened my eyes and given me a couple of new perspectives on the issues of today's world. Reading is mandatory, but you can slide by with not reading the entirety of the books or articles. If you do some of the reading, go to class, take notes, study those notes the night before the exam, then you will get an A.

I never did the readings and I did alright in his class. This being said, I stressed a lot when tests came around because I wasn't sure what he was going to put on there, DO THE READINGS. Laziness will not be your friend in this class. Overall, fun teacher, enjoyed his class for the most part.

Hilarious professor. His notes are extremely clear, but there's a lot of readings that you must do in order to do well on exams. 4 exams total and they're pretty easy. Class isn't mandatory, but you should go anyway. He tests on some of the things he says out loud but aren't in the notes. Very interesting class.

lots of readings and you need to read them in order to do good on his exams because his notes are not really helpful when studying for the exam. Plus, he requires you to do 20 hrs of volunteering at non-profit organization. The rest judge for yourself.

He's really into his stuff, but he's not helpful AT ALL. he never answers email and he's never in his office. You can talk to him in class, but hope you manage to do it then or you're in trouble.

This professor is really passionate in his teachings. There is a lot of reading but if you come to class and take notes then you should be fine. His tests are all essay but if you paid attention in class they are not bad at all. Pretty interesting class! I definitely recommend it.

This class is not hard, if you don't want to do all of the long readings, you should probably go to class, but if you are willing to do the readings there is really no point in going. The exams are written but are super easy you can pretty much make them up and do just fine.
