Prof. Gettelman is very sweet, and is a great prof. for freshmen because she is very understanding, caring, and really tries to help you become a better writer. She does assign a decent amount of reading, which is important to do since it is always discussed in class. She is a tough grader on essays, but going to office hours is very helpful.

She is a very sweet woman, and accessible outside of class. She is an extremely difficult grader, and will not give you credit for things you've corrected that she's called you out on, she'll just find new things that are a problem and then do the same thing. Nothing is ever good enough for her, and grades like she's grading a colleagues paper.

Professor Gettelmen was an intelligent professor, and her class was relatively interesting. She was very helpful in office hours, and she will even read and comment on your entire paper if you ask her to. She definitely made my writing better, and the class was not too difficult.

Excellent Prof. Assigned readings were very interesting. Grades short assignments on a check system, fairly easy to receive a check plus if effort it put into the homework assignment. Hard grader on papers, but does award a's if you deserve it. Very understanding when you accidentally miss an assignment. She is very kind and you can tell she cares.

Professor Gettelman is probably the best professor at Holy Cross. She is so nice, approachable and she really cares about what she's teaching. She made an 1,000 page Dickens novel interesting...that's something to say. She is just so smart and if you have the chance you should definitely take her.

Prof. Gettelman is the worst professor I've had so far. She assigns the most absurdly boring reading, she is absolutely in love with George Eliot, she is a relatively tough grader, and she runs her class in an incredibly sleep inducing manner.

I was surprised to see negative comments on Prof. Gettelman at all! She's very intelligent and passionate about 19th Cent. BritLit, and she really knows her stuff. If you got a poor grade or didn't like her, you're probably just one of those students who doesn't like to be told that you're wrong. I've learned A LOT from her. That's what counts.

A truly brilliant woman. The reason people hate her is because she knows her stuff and is hard to debate with. Bring your best to the table and she will give you tons of respect. She has gotten me to write the best papers I have ever written. Take this class if you have the guts and the brains

I felt like I was in high school again. And not in the good nostalgic way. Thank you, but I know how to use literary criticism in an essay. Really easy, but I don't recommend paying attention or doing the reading. You have to be in class, but it's not worth your time.

Stay away from this class. If you want an extremely boring and dry course then take this one. She believes in only her perspective and urs does not matter. She gets angry if you miss a class even if you are on ur death bed......plz stay away shes horrible why does HC still have her around as a professor...

EXTREMELY BORING!!! She picks favorites, doesn't appreciate different points of views on texts, thinks she's the only class you have, and hounds you if your absent. She's really boring, I can't stress that enough. Just don't take her!

She is not so great. I love English, but she does not do justice to the texts and believes in a set way of writing. She tends not to appreciate different writing styles. She is nice, but it is really not an interesting class. You'll get so bored and sleepy, you will stop going. Attendence effects your grade. Take Luria or Cruz. Avoid Gettelman!!!!!

Great class! Gettelman is engaging and really interested in subject matter (she basically wants to BE George Eliot) Encourages a lot of class discussion... not too much of a stickler for reading and tests/papers aren't too bad!
