Wouldn't recommend if the class is online. Makes it rlly hard to participate and then gets mad, rarely on topic, lots of busywork, breakout rooms with little/no instruction. Tests were unnecessarily complicated, they took hours to complete and work was harshly graded, never gave feedback. Doesn't seem like a terrible person, just not a good teacher.

Patrick's the man. Took him for Honors english and the workload was very managable. Four short (3 page) essays. Couple exams, which were straight out of the readings. Piece of cake. Final research paper was 6-8 pages. Keep up with readings, journal and participate and it's an easy A.

Dr. Barron is a wonderful professor and one of the best in UMB. He's funny, but very serious when it comes to class participation, so be prepared and do the readings before class. The assignments are not so bad, even though they are due every week, has about 2-5 questions for each one, and a little challenging. Laid back and amazing, a must have!!!

Homework every week is basically answering 5-6 questions based on readings we do. Lectures were amazing , they really helped us focus more on certain aspects of the readings and helped clarify misunderstandings. Exams are open-notes, book. Professor is great and helpful. Recommended!

Great guy, super smart. Most of the students in my class were seniors, therefore he treated us like adults, which was refreshing. I would say be respectful and do the readings as he gets a little annoyed if no one participates. Either way, he is very laid back and you will learn a lot, great in-class anecdotes, very funny.

Definitely recommend. He's a really smart guy, laid back, insightful, funny. He tries to make the students interested in writing, mostly through open subject projects and essays. Homework isn't too heavy - but there aren't many grades so make sure you do them. He understands his students and offers many opportunities for help.
