Prof Olney is really nice and a funny prof. He is very knowledgeable about the information. The class was fairly easy. Just copy down every thing son the powerpoints for the test. The book was not absolutely necessary, there are 1 or 2 questions per test from it.. I found the book online for free at library genesis . com.

only took it because I was required to. He tries to be funny and wastes 15+ minutes talking about Ester. It was very religious-based, almost everything was tied to God in some way, even though sociology is not religious.

Olney is great! Class is completely lecture-based, but he makes everything easy to understand. Pay attention in class, skim the textbook, and you'll do good.

Dr Olney is so animated. Its really fun to attend his class, you never know what hes gonna do next. My class was 5 tests ONLY, which was a little hard, and textbook was necessary. Very interesting class.

Doctor Olney is arguably one of the best profs I have had at this institution, who actually cares about his students and tries to make a personal connection with each and every one of them. This is quite impressive, considering the Sociology intro class is around 120 students large.

I enjoyed Olney's devotionals, and he tried his best to make lectures lively. You will need to write down all of the lecture notes and read the chapters outside of class. It's a little nerve-wracking to have your whole grade depend on 5 tests, but I feel that you're given enough to do well. You can tell Olney cares for the students and sociology.

Dr. Olney was lively and hilarious, making the subjects he taught interesting. He has so much experience in so many different areas--quite an admirable man. Class was an easy A if you do all the readings for the exams and show up for class. He marks your grade down for attendance, though, so don't skip.

I did not enjoy this professor at all. He was funny at points but he consistently wasted at least 15 minutes talking at the beginning of class when he could be a better teacher. He was constantly distracted during class, telling stories and I think the class couldve gone a lot better if he focused more on the material then being the funny guy.

Dr. Olney is a very kind professor who cares a lot about his students. Although sometimes his lectures drag, he tries to make it interesting for his students. He only grades on tests, which can be a bad thing for some people. His tests are more difficult than one would think from his lectures, but they are manageable.

He's one of the few professors out there that aren't out to get you! He genuinely cares about his students' success. Exams are primarily on notes and some on the readings. Favorite teacher at Olivet, would definitely take another of his classes!

Took intro to Sociology first semester and decided right then I would take another one of his classes because I liked him so much! (Now taking Sociology of Marriage) His devotions were very inspiring and eye-opening. He really makes Sociology super interesting and engages the (large) class. His tests (which are all of your grade) are moderate.

Olney probably made sociology as interesting as possible. However, those devotionals everyday were really quite long. The assigned seating and required attendance is hard to balance. Only way to get an A is to study every single line of your notes and there are a lot of them. He is very kind man though.

His devitonals are a little long, but very much worth taking the class!I would say take Introduction to Sociology if you can with Dr.Olney.

Comment:
I'm with the guy a few posts down. Olney is SO ridiculously biased! I had him for Marriage and Family and was floored by his anti-gay comments. I couldn't believe I was learning this in a college class. Actual quote from his powerpoint: An example of the liberal bias of textbooks is that they are "pro-diversity." Really, Dr. Olney?
