Exams are really tough, but that is a symptom of the class not the professor. She is clearly the best BIOL110 professor. She is caring and interesting to listen to. Homework and projects are generally useless.

kinda boring but relatively easy and denise knows how to do online teaching well, as she taught web campus before. the lab can be annoying though

The nicest professor ever. Always very considerate, caring, and VERY laid back. Every assignment we took we took in groups, and the assignments were not hard at all. I am 99% sure everybody got an A in the class, and the information is very interesting. She always offered extra time after the due date, and you can tell she is very passionate

Woodward was super nice and really did work with you and was super flexible. Lectures could get a little boring and monotone here and there but she threw jokes in to try and keep attention. LAs were super accessible as well. Would take it again but definetly study. Dropped the lowest test score which was super nice.

If you're here looking for a professor for BIOL110, look no further. Dr. Woodward by far has been my all-time favorite prof during my time at PSU. I recommend not underestimating this course due to its lack of homework because the exams are heavily weighted and pretty challenging. I also recommend going to LA office hours - they are really helpful!

I love Dr. Woodward. I'm taking her class on zoom and the only homework we have is Mastering Biology and we barely have assignments for it and it takes max o30 minutes. The exams are pretty easy and straightforward, and she does practice problems during lectures that are on the exam. She's super sweet and the workload is light, surprisingly.

A nice lady and her class isn't the hardest. If you put in work you'll do well. Her class is a pretty standard biology 110 class and just what I expected.

Class is easy for biology-based majors but can be challenging for non-science majors. Exam questions come pretty much from the clickers and quizzes. If you come to class and do all the homework, no reason why anyone can't get an A.

The workload is incredible for an online class. I've taken many online classes, none have ever required the amount of time and dedication that this class does. The testing is ridiculous. Truly some of the most conceptual and difficult testing I've ever experienced. I wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

Dr. Woodward is fine enough. There is a lot of learning on your own and the tests are quite difficult. It's definitely a weed-out class, so don't get discouraged if you're struggling. She isn't terrible, but she isn't going to be the best professor you've ever had. I didn't enjoy this class and almost changed my major because of it.

There's soooo much connect homework but you basically learn a lot of the material from it while getting free points and class is like a review of the textbook. If you've taken a 200-level bio, this class is all review of things you already know, which was my case, so I had a hard time making myself go to class. If not it may be more challenging.

Poorly explains topics, class is primarily self taught and lectures are minimally helpful for expanding knowledge of the covered topics. Tests tend to ask obscure questions on topics covered. Should have run the first day when she said "I don't lecture, I guide discussions." Be ready to use your iClickers, a lot.

Literally the hardest class i have ever taken, and she doesnt help. You have to read and basically learn everything for yourself. Lecture is basically just clicker points and some examples. The tests are SO hard. The questions are designed to trick you. The average exam score was a D for every exam. If you take this class, well good luck Charlie.

I have taken two classes with Dr. Woodward (bio 110 as a freshman and bio 415 as a sophomore) and have also been one of her bio 110 LAs. Dr. Woodward is an excellent professor, quite possibly the best I've had (now a senior). She gives you the resources you need to do well, but will not hold your hand. Take her classes if you can.

Dr Woodward is the most amazing professor I have ever had. Makes a genetics course fun and worth going to class. You only need 5 clicker questions correct per exam block. The TA is awesome and helps guide students through the clicker questions. If you have to take BIO133 it would be a mistake to take it with anyone other than Denise!

Woodward is truly a peach. This course is tough, it's not an easy A, but an A or high B is attainable if you put in the work. Homework doesn't take that long and you have unlimited attempts. 4 exams, 4 quizzes, 2 essays (1 page each), and 30 homeworks. Solid choice for genetics.

Shes fine! Nothing really special, a very nice woman who loves her job! Her exams are kinda hard - they ask trick questions and she gives awful study material. I used everything she gave us - could do it in my sleep yet got 70's or below on exams. Concepts aren't hard her questions are. The HW is really long and time consuming too.

I really loved this professor and her class! It was by far my favorite at Penn State. She teaches such interesting material and in a way you can understand and feel smart doing it! She has fun with lecture and makes sure it is interactive - I feel I can only learn that way. Several projects and group work but nothing you can't handle!

Denise is such a great professor. She goes in depth with what you really need to focus on for the exams and gives many many examples of how to complete tricky problems. She's very personable and cares about student successes. Online practice exams are the best indicator of what test questions will be expected to look like.
