Heldenbrand is kind and respected. However, his tests are notoriously difficult; make study guides and study! Study w/ his lecture notes, the textbook, his slides, and documents from studocu and studyblue. Tests are 66.6% of your grade. There are 7 quizzes, 3 multiple-choice exams, some homework assignments, 6 labs, and extra credit for attendance.

Heldenbrand is a good teacher but is a bit dull and monotonous. He has a very dry sense of humor and his classes can drag sometimes but overall I would recommend him. As long as you do the reading and the work you'll pass

Comment:
Every Heldenbrand class is extremely predictable. Slide lectures daily with occasional humorous commentary. 10 point quizzes sprinkled throughout. Couple of Labs. Couple of Projects. Tests however, are HARD and WEIGHTY. They are literally worth 61.2% of the grade. If you figure out how to take his tests, you're golden. He's also a great guy.

Currently tied for my #1 most solid professor, along with Prof Wagner. He's been in the field/industry for so long and knows his stuff. He's got the ins and outs of each topic forward and backward, and more importantly, is able to explain them at a level we can understand. He has a dry, reserved sense of humor and his class has been great.

Prof. Heldenbrand is a very good teacher. He knows his stuff and gives you a good amount of material to study and has good clear lectures. The only downfall is how much info he gives you, he jam packs the lectures and tests with stuff I'm not sure we need to know. Not a lot of homework, but a lot of material to study for the test.

Really boring. Does okay at explaining stuff, but he's fairly monotone. Just lectures. That's all that happens in class. If you like that, he's for you.

Great teacher. He practically reads his notes as he takes you through his slides, so class isn't very exciting. Provides you with the notes and the slides. Most organized teacher I've ever had. Dry sense of humor. Lets you know when a quiz is coming up and what's on it. Accommodated me when I had a need for extra help. Would take again.

This is the second class I've taken from Professor Heldenbrand and I would continue to take more. His exams are notoriously hard, and it's impacted my grade in a small way, but I've gained an incredible understanding of the subject matter because of it. He's always willing to help his students, and definitely one of the best in UVU's CS department.

Heldenbrand is one of my favorite CS professors at UVU. Very clear about expectations and assignments. Extremely thorough and updates class materials regularly. Deadpan jokes made the lectures less boring. It's a hard subject, but it was understandable.

Heldenbrand is great, and extremely thorough. He gives very clear expectations and instructions for all the labs and homework. Slides and lecture notes are available online--this was really helpful for me because I often missed class due to health problems. Tests were hard, but reasonable. Dry sense of humor.

By far and away the best teacher I have had at the three schools I have attended: BYU, UVU and University of Chicago. His commitment to you, the student, is simply amazing

He has all the important things from his lectures in well organized lecture notes (+ slides). Prepared for every lecture. He doesn't spit on students. I think the majority of people would think he is top 5 of the cs department. Exams are questionable, but you have to be delusional if you graded him low for any other reason.

He's great at explaining and he'll help in any way he can. Slideshows are a little dry. He expects a lot out of his students so the work load is on the heavy side. Very good overall though.

I believe Prof Heldenbrand is the best teacher at UVU.He is extremely prepared for every class, you can tell that he doesnt just rely on past teaching materials,he is constantly researching new technology and talking with people in the private sector to learn what the relevant information is for his students and modifying his curriculum to match.

Probably the best teacher at Utah Valley. I say probably only because I haven't taken them all, but he is definitely the best teacher in the computer science department. Classes aren't easy but he is crystal clear in his teaching and expectations. He actually cares if test questions are ambiguous and will do his best to correct them.

Dave has got to be one of the most knowledgable teachers on the subject he teaches. He will always research the answer of a question and tell you the answer the next class period if he doesn't already know. Tests are difficult but they actually show if you know the material. I loved his classes even though a few lectures are tough to get through.
