AVOID HER! It is just an introductory public speaking course, but she gives you exams, weekly quizzes, and one long essay except for speeches. Unreasonable workload! She also forces you to buy and read the book that she wrote. For speeches, you can't read PPT or use any notes. Otherwise, you will be docked points or get a 0. TOO STRICT!

Shubb is absent throughout the entire class, forcing you to read from her interactive textbook. Most work is done in discussion when you interact with TAs. There is no clear interaction with her, so class expectations are simply unclear. Do not procrastinate.

I hate how disorganized this class was. I had to take time sometimes just to find certain information because she did not have it all in one place. She does not care what is going on in your life. If you miss something, that is it. She will tell you to drop the class.

I don't like public speaking but overall I didn't think this class was that bad. The professor really isn't involved that much; all the content comes from the textbook and all grading is done by the TAs. As long as you follow the rubric on the assignments you should be fine in this class.

This class was a mess. She wasnt involved at ALL and gave us lectures she recorded from other quarters, which were just her basically going over the book. Didnt get a single email from her that wasnt automated about the exam being released, and TAs ran the class/did the grading so she was completely absent.

Prof. is okay but you are required to buy her textbook and she doesn't actually teach at all. Your grade fully depends on your TA. The grade is comprised of 1 paper, 2 midterms, and 4 speeches. The class is fine but you have to put actual, consistent effort in to get an A.

The professor really didn't matter in this class, as we were mostly graded off of things in our discussion. I think they make our TAs grade us unnecessarily hard, especially for an intro course. Her lectures are very organized and informative, though.

The class is not hard but the professor wrote her own textbook and made it mandatory to buy which is very unnecessary especially because we are already paying thousands for dollars to attend classes. Lastly it felt very impossible to get a high grade because as someone who has anxiety my voice trembles when presenting which docked my grade

this class made me feel so much worse about public speaking- and i publicly spoke all throughout highschool! im in my third year and have maintained a 4.0- and THIS was the class i had to take P/NP. prof never responded to emails, unfair TA grading, TA always tardy, barely anyone knew what was going on in my discussion! don't take this class!

wThe class itself was okay. I never saw her, since the class was online. The one thing I did not like was that we had to buy her textbook. It was an okay textbook that cost $40 to use for 9 weeks. Could've been worse, but still a little irritating.

CMN 001 was a challenging class but overall, it helped improve my skills as a whole. The class meets for mandatory discussion twice a week and discussions are led by TAS. Never did I communicate with Professor Shubb throughout the quarter but she did provide helpful videos that correlated with each subject we were talking about.

This class isnt too difficult but writing an essay for a public speaking class is a little...? Also, Professor wrote her own textbook and makes it mandatory to buy it for the class... I just dont agree with professors that think they are justified in making us spend more money than we already have to :(

I honestly dont know why people hate this class so much? The professor is a good lecturer, the content is pretty easy to grasp, and the essays arent that difficult. The hardest part is probably the speeches you have to give but as long as you prepare ahead of time you should be fine. It is pretty TA-based though so it would suck to have a bad one

The lectures are dry and mostly useless. She makes you buy a textbook that she has personally wrote that is beyond boring and contains little useful information for the topic of public speaking. The main bulk of the work is done by the TA's. If you have a good TA, you'll have a decent class. Take a different class

Honestly, I found this class interesting. She didn't teach this quarter at all (during the COVID pandemic), we had to watch the lectures from the previous quarter. The only thing that was difficult was the grading from the TA. What you think is a "dramatic conclusion" may not be so dramatic for them, but they are willing to help you out.

Your grade mainly depends on your TA, as they grade the majority of your work. Her final exam is pretty difficult though, with a lot of the questions coming from lecture. She's pretty funny though and has an interesting wardrobe.

Holy crap. NEVER ever voluntarily take this class thinking its gonna be a good GE. The reason is there is so much damn work for just an introductory public speaking class. You have write rhetorical analysis papers ,read a lot from her useless expensive textbook, and speeches of course which the TAs grade harshly and arbitrarily. AVOID if possible
