Professor Charles absolutely scared me on the first day of classes! The syllabus is very intimidating, but once you get to the next week of classes, he explains it more in detail. It is a lot of little work but it's balanced well over the semester. Don't worry if you're scared of him at first he is very kind and friendly!

Generally unclear expectations throughout the course. He wrote the textbook for the course and created many acronyms that seldom make sense.

This class is very presentation, participation, and debate heavy with only 40% of your final grade coming from exams (midterm exam counts for 10% and final exam counts for 30%). Topics are interesting and relevant.

Comment:
I took Philosophy of Kinesiology w/ him. The course was writing intensive and you have to complete TWO debates in front of the WHOLE class. There were two exams that were ALL essay! But overall, Charles is a nice guy who knows a lot about the subjects he teaches.

Health ethics is really hard to get into unless you're a senior because it satisfies GER7 and the upper level writing requirement for majors. Intimate class setting was a plus. Its very interesting. After the first couple weeks of class its basically just debates. The case study paper is pretty easy to do and hes generous about it.

Makes philosophy interesting but expects a lot of class participation n the form of debates and presentations. Takes attendance every day. Syllabus is very confusing and he tends to only tell you when assignments are due about a week in advance so its hard to keep track of everything

Comment:
philosophy in kinesiology is a great class, more about applying and developing your own philosophy than learning what famous philosophers thought. fair amount of homework and light reading. most of class time is debating, which is good if you have a good class. easy A if you put any effort into it at all.

I went into Health Ethics thinking it was going to be really hard. We had a lot of work the first couple of weeks but then just had debates the rest of the semester. They were fun, the grading not very intense which is good because his directions are really unclear. Great, interesting, thought provoking class - GER 7 too.

Philosophy of Kinesiology is an interesting class, but it's a lot of work. The book is very well written, but at times, it seems a little cheesy. I wish we had done more philosophical readings for this class.
