Comment:
She gives a lot of homework, but the assignments aren't difficult if you watch her lectures. Personal finance is probably one of the most practical courses at hunter. The first few weeks, she focused on budgeting, credit scores, net worth, etc. Later she gets more into investment theory.

After taking 2 of her classes I must say she is absolutely pitiful. She assigns a ton of homework from the book, however the exams are based entirely on her lecture slides (that are only half complete) so you learn nothing from the HW you spend so much time doing. Avoid at all costs. I cant be more serious when I say that. Worst professor!!!!!!!

Devra Golbe's exams are what every economics exams should be like, they should make you sweat, think, re-think, and think some more. She tries her best to be as clear as possible, but you can tell that she wants you to find the answer on your own, no spoon-feeding. As the chair of the department, her brilliance lives up to her position, true genius

She is very knowledgeable about economics but doesn't effectively teach it. Usually answers questions with "I'll come back to that". The first few topics were easy but then the class became boring to the point where I'd literally fall asleep. The only reason I ended up passing is because I self taught myself with the textbook and homework. Avoid.

A very boring class. You have to sign the attendance sheet, which most people did and then they left the classroom. In order to do good in the class use the textbook and teach yourself economics cause the professor isn't that very helpful. Only good thing is that she curves your final grade.

She is nice and very knowledgeable in economics but cannot effectively transfer her knowledge to the students. I learned more from her TA then her. She is a bit inconsistent. Try to find another professor.

Not a class for a freshmen. you really need to love/know/live by economics to get through this class with an A. i wish someone warned me of the level of difficulty in this class. The professor is reasonable, teaches at a high level, comparable to grad level.

She isn't the best professor you should take. Her lectures are extremely boring and she doesn't really do a good job explaining. To pass this class you need to be a SMART student and DILIGENT. You have to read the text book in order to understand what takes place in class. She isn't a bad person, she just can't really teach well.

Professor Golbe is wonderful! When I read the bad reviews for her on this site I was extremely nervous, but all of my worries were washed away after the first week of classes. She is extremely helpful and straight forward. No tricks up her sleeve, homework helps boost grade. Go to class and read the text and you will be fine!

Professor Golbe is one of the most available and helpful professors I know. Take advantage of her office hours, she will explain anything, she is always willing to help. There is a lot of work, but if you do it, you'll do well. There is always a curve so a C can easily become a B. I learned more in her class than any other.

She is the most incompetent professor I have ever met in my entire life. No social skills, unwilling to help students and no extra credit. She has a very dry personality which reflects in her teaching techniques if you want to call it that. If you take her class be prepared for a credit/no credit or a withdrawal, but more importantly avoid her.

I was absent for one class although I did all the hw and textbook examples and still missed 20 pts on the last test for one problem wrong; the only problem she went over from all the hw and text problems she assigned. The test grades were miserable since the class average was a C - 50's. Don't take her!

a lot complain about how hard she is but i thought she was very easy-i have no interest for economics, just took it for GER, i STILL have no interest for economics; i hardly went to class (although her tests are very lecture based) BUT i read every chapter (to do hw) and got low b's for midterms- she curves awesome- final grade was A+, VERY HAPPY
