Terrible terrible professor. Took him for CS245E (online bc Covid) in Spring 2020. He was just so lazy, was always lagging behind on assignments and checking and releasing material. Really unhelpful on Piazza and inconsiderate when students were struggling with challenging assignments and were requesting for assignment deadlines.

To be fair he is a bit scattermind. Since it was a online term it was basically self learning anyway. As a result I did not really experience the alleged terrible teaching style. He is probably better at explaining things on paper. The pdf lectures were pretty helpful. Not particularly hard compare to other advanced CS courses, confusing indeed.

He is okay for 360. His tests and assignments are very hard though. Responsive on piazza and email, and handled remarking requests well. Never went to class though. Final exam was a piece of cake for some reason. The prof is really into the material and makes up his own assignment/test questions (hard to google).

Bad at explaining course materials. Reading slides during class. Long(10 pages) weekly assignment, hard midterm(average of 63%), and no curve.

Maybe not a good lecturer, but a good prof who can explain everything clear in his office hour, assignment is hard when you try it right after you read theses long slides, but really easy midterm&final.

Irresponsible for his students. Wrote an article on July 4th and used it as the course material and required axioms for the assignments and the final exam. He 99 percent talks to himself while "looks like he is teaching to us". Little explanation are understandable in this course. Slides are hard to comprehend.

Comment:
He spent literally 10 minutes in class waiting for someone to raise their hand. Lectures are dull and he just reads off of the slides. When asked a question, never answers it directly, or just mumbles until he can come up with a satisfactory answer. The only reason I understood anything in the course was because of the tutorial TAs.

Most useless lectures. Doesn't know the material he teaches and constantly gets stumped with student questions and stares at the board, until someone else answers the question for him.

Had to stop going to class after the midterms because his explanations in class weren't of any help. Avoid Prof Buss at all costs.

Comment:
His classes and method of explanation are extremely boring. Often makes tons of mistakes in presented notes and is forced to try and explain stuff on the board, which makes the explanations even worse. Because the course content is relatively tough, this makes for an even poorer experience. Worst class I've ever taken. Worst prof I've come across.

CS245 is very disorganized and filled with error, less examples were shown in lectures, assignments were usually posted late, try your best to avoid his section.

Comment:
Try your best to avoid him/his courses. CS245 was very disorganized, none of the professors actually gave good lectures, assignments and exams were filled with errors. His lectures are very useless because of his unclear explanations. Worst course in UWaterloo.
