He's such a great guy, so kind and makes the lectures funny and entertaining. He mumbles a bit so it takes some getting used to but I really enjoyed the class. The tests are essay focused and are very straightforward. He also cancels one lecture a week almost every week. I never read for the class and still did well

Great guy. Very lecture-heavy. Discussions are when you get a lot of the information. You NEED to get the modernization textbook it will help immensely with the tests.

Comment:
Tries to make a boring subject funny and does a good job breaking up the monotony of school by canceling one lecture a week. While he does mumble a lot during lectures he makes up for it by not caring that half the class is on their laptops not paying attention. Not really many grades in the class so be ready to impress him during the exams.

McGrath is a good professor, but he mumbles sometimes and gets distracted. His classes are pretty lecture heavy, but if you pay attention during his discussions and lectures you'll pass his tests even if you just skimmed through the readings. You should read most of the assignments though! You can tell he is very passionate about his teachings.

Comment:
Professor McGrath mumbles sometimes. Lecture and discussion times are densely packed with information, so be ready to take lots of notes. The grading rubric for each individual assignment is not 100% clear. Beware of pop quizzes which are from the readings.

He really is so passionate in what he teaches and know's everything there is to to know so as long as you follow along as best you could you'll do fine! He wants you to succeed

Count yourself lucky if you have him as your professor. McGrath is so smart and passionate about SS. His lectures were the highlight of my freshmen classes. He's also an amazing human being and so sweet if you take the time to get to know him. If you're interested in social sciencessociology, this class will change your life, believe me.

Only hard to hear ifyou're sitting in back. Fascinating spin on how people behave. I learned more from him than all my teachers in high school combined. And a fair grader.

A nice guy, but impossible to understand. He mumbles so much that you only catch every other word. The tests weren't too difficult. If you have him, don't worry you will be fine, however I wouldn't seek him out as a professor. Attendance is a must!

IF YOU HAVE HIM AS A PROFESSOR STAY. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE ON TEAM D. HE wrote all the books. His team exams are super easy because there is only one essay question and he picks the most obvious ones that you would understand. I moved out of the team and I regret it so bad

He's not a bad professor he's pretty cool and a really fair grader but I hated going to his classes cause I had a really tough time understanding what he was saying - rambles and mumbles a lot! He is helpful if you are struggling with something he will go over it again. Just do the readings and you're set.

Has him for SS101/102. Pretty good professor. You really have to go to class and read. It's pretty easy if you do that. And just listen to him, he really explains things well.

Great professor!!! I had him this year for SS 101/102. If you get him, consider yourself lucky!! He's really nice and really cares about his students. You shouldn't really struggle in his class unless you don't read. It gets on his nerves if you don't read, but overall great class! Everyone loved him and I wish I had him again as a professor!

Had him for both 101 and 102. He is an excellent professor! He frequently goes over concepts he wants you to know. This can be redundant, but you will actually learn about how the world works in this class. It is very enlightening. Make sure you read and participate! If you do, you will get an A-/B+. He is a fair grader and overall a fun/chill guy.

Mcgrath is awesome! He mumbles and can be hard to understand, if it's noisy. So, sit near the front! Not much of a workload for this class. His e-mail is el-draque which means "The Dragon" in spanish and that makes him cool. The historical reference is a main focus of his personal academic research.. i.e Early European history.

MCGRATH IS AMAZING! By far the best teacher I've had at BU during my freshman year. Great teacher, everything is crystal clear, and his great passion for teaching is so clear to see. This also greatly benefits his students for you can tell he wants nothing more than for his students to succeed. Best teacher in the world! You're so luck to have him!
